I'm a little late posting this, but I would like to tip my hat to Bill Heyworth and Warren Walker of the Knights of the Round Circle for the outstanding effort they put into the "Palmer Classic". I built a Palmer Mars a couple of years back and have been looking forward to meeting Mr. Palmer and having him sign it, so I packed it up along with the trusty "Checkmate", and headed down to La La land hoping I could Get Mr. Palmer to sign it for me. Unfortunatly, Bob could not attend but I did get to speak with him on the phone, what a gentleman!!! I dreaded the thought of driving six hours down and six hours back. But I can tell you now, it was very well worth it I'll do it again next year and the year after. Great contest guys, see you next year!!! Larry, NorCal Circle Jerks.

Does anybody know the results of P40 and Advanced PA? I had to leave before the events were finalized but I too pitch in my two cents that it was a great experience and will attend again next year.
Fuel problems and unstable runs kept me out of the running but the problems are now solved with an ST needle valve assembly.
Here is what I learned since the contest. The Primary Force with an OSLA25 runs great with an apc 9x4 prop using a ST needle valve, 3 oz tank with 2 1/2oz 10% nitro 22% castor/synthetic mix, running at 11,000 on the deck. After one lap the motor unwinds for a steady but strong two cycle throughout the pattern. 58 foot lines are a little fast but the plane flies great. Perhaps longer .010 solid lines say 64 feet may work out better. Will try that tomorrow.

Hi Bob,
There are a few other contests this year down here that you might want to attend.
There is the Hi Johnson Memorial on 3 August at Sepulveda, the Mackey Open on 6-7 September will be at Whittier or Sepulveda (I am not sure), the Ted Goyet Classic on 16-17 August at Woodland (near Sacremento), and I have heard that the Golden State Championships are now being organized which are normally sometime in October. If they have the Clovis meet, it is a real treat to attend. These are all great contests and have always been well run. The Johnson meet has an abreviated format with only Beginner, Classic, P-40 and 1/2A.
About your Primary Force with an OS .25. Minimum solid line diameter if flown in a contest is 0.012 inch.
Better recheck on the Mackey contest. Eric Rule said at the Palmer meet that it was cancelled this year. Has it been reinstated?

I was under the impression that if your average scores for the season exceed 500 points, you are definitely in the expert category!!!! A winning score of 468.5 in an advanced contest an expert does not make!!!!. I would also assume that a single score over 500 an expert does not make. When you consider all the world class, national champions, US team members consistently score over 500-520 a single victory in advance at 468.5 does not place you at the same level of competition.

That is an interesting point Bob. I have never scored a 500 yet but I have been consistantly around 490-495 mark. I have won 6 of the last 7 contests that I have flown advanced and most of my flying buddies feel its time for me to move on. What is the general rule for class advancement. If you have won 6 of the last 7 contests in Advanced I think you should move in to Expert. You will find that competing against guys that are better than you are will improve your flying more than winning contests at the lower levels.

Sorry I couldn't make the Palmer. It sounds like it was a good time. Couple of "in abstentia" observations.
Mr. Gordon Delaney is going to quickly be the real deal with that new Tony. A few minor trim problems with his other ships have kept him just off the pace. This new ship is likely to cause everyone trouble wherever it goes in Gordie's hands. You heard it here first...or maybe second...or third. Shoot, no big surprise, I guess.
Second, Dave Sabon's improved performance really caught my attention in Albany in May. His placing at the Palmer is a very pleasant but no longer unexpected surprise. He's a guy that has to do a lot of flying on his own and, as a result, had to make all the mistakes himself. It appears he's learned from them all. He's a picture book example of someone who set himself a goal and won't rest until he reaches it.
It's a treat to see both of these guy's names at the top of a major stunt competition. It bodes well for the future of our event.

Welcome to Expert, my friend. So much for outhouses, shoulder blocks and purloined private parking places obtained under subterfugenous circumstances. Gotta be a "gent" now. Clean pants, a shirt and tie at the awards ceremony. (Also helps if you sport a bit of an accent...preferably Brit and not Joisey!)
Do they still have those neat T-shirts at the Palmer Classic? I saw Bob Palmer wearing one at Brodak's 2000 that had an inscription, "The older I get, the better I used to fly". I thought that was a great saying to put on a T-shirt.
Ted; I started warning the guys down here in Tucson and Phoenix about David 3 years ago. One top of that he's a nice guy that has time for anyone.
