Isn't anyone concerned that the FAI landing maneuver description may become the maneuver description for AMA competition if the proposal passes. It describes the landing maneuver to begin at 5' and continue for a full lap prior to touchdown. This is going to involve a lot of "whipping" under normal conditions and is going to be a real bitch in the wind, particularly for airplanes with more drag. this landing is artificial beyond description, as though someone added this requirement just to make the maneuver more difficult. Why not require we also break a balloon on the approach? We should not tolerate, senseless, pointless, artificial rules in AMA competition where we have a voice in the adoption of rules.
I think the landing maneuver should begin when the airplane begins to descend from whatever altitude and should continue for a full lap prior to touchdown. It has been described this way in the past. Landing rollout should be largely judged by its touchdown. Surface irregularities which cause the airplane to skip back into the air should be ignored as they are beyond the control of the pilot.
At least that is my opinion.
