Any News from NATS?

Hi all! We're missing NATS this year (first time in 6 years) and are looking around for any news and results. Know Wednesday (July 9) was the first day in qualifying for the Advanced and Open flyers. Would be interested to know how folks are doing and how well they are coping with the weather conditions.
College boy update: Kevin has survived his first year at Virginia Tech. He was part of the Aerospace International Team (design and wind tunnel testing groups; team was made up of 14 members from VT and 8 from Loughbough University in England; Kevin was one of 3 freshmen with the rest of the team being seniors). Their project and model won first place in the NASA Student Competition and he will be traveling to Oshkosh/ Air Venture. The team will be making a presentation on their project on August 2 and receive their award. All of his control line experience (both building and flying) was very helpful in designing and testing the model for the team. Between working and taking classes to get ahead this year, Kevin has not done much flying. But he promises, "I shall return."

They may be to busy running for higher ground. The weather chanel hasen't had too many good thigs to say about Indiana weather this week.

Hello Lynn, We could'nt make the Nats this year ourselves. Just bought a new home that set us back a bit. But just wait till next year!!!!!! The Buttafucco Stunt Team will return !! Glad to hear Kevin is doing great, I'll send him a line later. Larry, NorCal Circle Jerks.

Hi Stewarts, Nice to hear that Kevin is doing well and that model airplanes had a hand in his success! To the NATS news, Phil Cartier called Gil Reedy to say that among other things several persons including at least one Stunt Flyer had experienced cardiac distress. Phil said that during his pattern a stunt flyer started to get severe pain and that his wife had to go into the circle to take the plane from him. He was later rushed to the hospital for help. Another man who helped many get unstuck from the mud at the combat circles had a heart attack enroute to home. He drove himself to the emergency room. One would think that the AMA would yield some electronic reports from their/ our alleged big meet! Perhaps this kind of service is expecting too much from that organization!

Jerry Phelps was the stunt flyer who collapsed. He is recovering. I don't know his status. Jordy Segal was the combat flyer who had the heart attack Saturday. He had some stents installed. He was back at the field yesterday. He looked good.

I'm so sorry to hear about those two fliers. We don't know the combat gentleman but we do know the Phelps. Please give Jerry and Mary our best and let them know that Jerry is in our prayers for a rapid and full recovery.

Just checked Phil. I know how the speed guys did and the helicopters. Guess there is not much else to Model Aviation......

Hi! Thanks for reply. I have been checking the AMA site you gave. Unfortunately it does not have the Precision Aerobatics groups (Advanced and Open) listed. Have found standings on other Nats threads here in Stuka Stunt from Leonard, Howard and Curt Contrata. Thanks guys for those updates! Keep 'em coming!

Lougborough has one of the oldest Model Flying Clubs in the UK - they cater for all disciplines including control line!

Thanks for reply! Love the web sites you listed. Kevin said the Loughbough team was a great group of guys and gals. He got to sit in on several teleconferences with the Virginia Tech team. The LU group flew over to VT after the project was finished and sent a week. According to the e-mails and phones calls we've had with VT, only three or four of LU team will be able to come to the Air Venture presentation in Oshkosh on August 2. Kevin is looking forward to seeing them again. Thanks again!
