Don’t you just love it when you “Score”, Get a “Good Deal” on something, a “Bargain”.
I found a NIB OS VF .46 P (pump model) on *-Bay so I bought it. I paid $125.00 and shipping. When I got the engine, (it was perfect) it had the PA 104 Pump System in the box still in plastic.

Apparently the carburetor is a special all attitude type that utilizes a pump/pressure system. Well I wouldn’t be needing an R/C carburetor or a pump So...

I carefully removed it along with the instruction sheet and snapped a picture of it and the rest of the parts and put them back on *-Bay. I figured I’d get a few bucks for it.

YAAHOOO, it sold for $72.00…. plus shipping.

I'm doing the "Snoopy Dance".

And to add to that, My son Malcolm is back from Iraq and will be home on the 21st. He is in the 3rd Army. OUURAHH!!!

Has anyone else just been walking along, minding there own business when all of a sudden a new PA engine just falls from the sky and lands on them?

Hi Tony,

You wouldn't know of any old (but good) Frog 500 glow, ED Racer 2.46cc diesel or AM 25 and 35 diesel engines for sale, would you?
I don't come across many here in Australia and they are not all that common on eB*y but there may be a number of them available for sale in the UK?

Or would you suggest I check out MECOA regularly...?

I recently paid:

£90 for an AM25 in a nicely built New Jr Monitor (Ebay)
£35 for an AM35 (Irvin)
£40 for an ED 2.46 (not a Racer - Irvin)
£42 for an ED Racer (Ebay)

Back during the 70's/80's oil boom, I was a high roller and also was flying quite a bit as a private pilot so felt I needed a Rolex GMT master watch. Picked up one excellent used, with box, for $700. Wore it 10 years, lost a minute or two a month, went in for two $150 cleanings and finally lost it quail hunting in the snow when band must have broken. Never found it but insurance company sent me $1500 and I was happy. Got a Seiko as a sales prize and learned it was functionally much better than the Rolex, just not the sex appeal.

Anyway, a couple of years ago I spotted the Rolex box on a closet shelf and started to throw it away but checked e bay and sure enough, there is a market for Rolex boxes. It brought $150 from a guy in Japan with inner and outer box, certificate, wax seal, etc. This turned the old Rolex purchase into a very nice deal indeed.
I have sold perhaps $5000 worth of stuff, a lot of it junk in my eyes, to those more desiring of these treasures on E bay. Without the bay, this stuff would have continued to gather dust, be thrown away or given away.

In the meantime, if you buy a Rolex with a box and certificate on E bay, don't be sure it's the real thing until someone who knows examinines it.

For $75 I picked up a new NIB Oliver Tiger Cub MK-II, Series-II with MOD on the side of the right beam mount.

A fellow engine collector from Scotland was here for a visit and said
he has been looking for one of these engines for many years.

Nope, no "good deals" anywhere of late.
I also am most grateful for the safe return of your child, but that is all. As to being grateful for any of the rest, I'd best stay silent.

Well a good year or two on e$ay I was the high bid on a box of Cox engines and parts. I think it was something around $60-$70 bucks total. I get the package in the mail with a letter saying the seller had found some other "junk" and sent it along. Well the junk was a never mounted Cox Olympic .15 and a pair of Cox Space Hoppers!!!! Nice junk don't you think!!!

I painted a car for a friend of my father, a few years back. Then a couple of years later, he shows up at my hanger with an Ambroid Stuka Stunt kit !!! Said he found it at a Flea Market in Las Vegas and thought about me when he saw it. He would'nt take any money for it, just gave it to me!!! I should have it painted next week. Just like the one on the box. I'm just a lucky guy.Larry, NorCal Circle Jerks.

A while ago I bought 5 years worth of Aeromodeller mags for £32 on Ebay - in the package were some mint plastic kit catalogues which I sold on Ebay for £100.....

On a "lark" I drove about an hour to a R/C swap meet one Saturday morning. Got there when the doors opened and within 20 mins. I had three excellent C/L engines for a total of less than $20!
The best of the bunch was a first series Veco 35 (made by K&B/Allyn)
that set me back a whole $5! Also a great running McCoy RH 35 that was unmounted.
Never expected to get anything there.

My coolest deal was: walking into the LHS (R/C) several years ago. The Hobby shop owner was selling some old stuff for a guy and I think was getting tired of looking at it in his shop. One of the engines was a NIB repro O.S. K-9 ignition engine, I got hold of the guy and ask him if $100 would buy it? He told me $150 and take it all! Got the K-9, a like new O.S. Wankle .30, NIB K&B .90 boat engine, 2-like new Foresters .29 &.31, old Fox.35, Cleveland kit P-39, J. Walker whip plane and appx. doz. old 12-14" props a buch of old decal and other misc. stuff! The guy had worked at a another hobby shop that went out of business, so I'm sure he knew what the stuff was worth and I really didn't know him....several months later I found out he died, he must have known.

A couple of years ago, I got a phone call on saturday morning from a local flea market. The caller had received my phone number from the local hobby shop. He said he happened to have some CL stuff for sale. I went to the flea market and looked at the stuff. There was an excellent Johnson SS BB, an excellent Johnson CS BB and a Fox .36x. He asked is $75.00 was a fair price? I said yes!

I sold the Fox .36x for $40.00, Traded the Johnson .36 BB CS for an excellent McCoy redhead .29 rear rotor, and traded the Johnson .36 SS for a new in box Johnson .36 BB CS.(such a deal!)

I put the NIB Johnson on Ebay, and it sat at $89.00 for the last few days it was on. I was disappointed, because I thought it would go for more than that. There were 3 seconds left on the auction, and the bid numbers started flickering, and stopped at $308.00!

That was the best horsetrade I was ever in. and no, these things don't happen often.

I won't tell you about the bad horsetrades though..

Not exactly a horse trade, but.. when AMA first opened the Muncie field, they had an Open House with a flea market. And there was someone selling stuff which I think came from Top Flite. Sheets of balsa 1/4"x3"x18" for 10 cents apiece. 1/16"x3"x12" plywood, 25 cents each. Top Flite wood props for a quarter apiece. I bought a bunch. Still have some. But now I regret not going into debt and buying everything they had...

Another one. Tower's "Cheap Sheet" sale. They had bunches and bunches of Top Flite 7x6 Pylon Props for 9 cents apiece. Used them for Combat practice. Still have several dozen.

And then there was Bob Bearden's Burn Pile... ^_^ I showed up to visit late one evening, and he said, here's where I've been burning wood scraps - take all you want! I filled up the car trunk. That pile supplied me with combat stabilators, tip ribs and 1/2-A sheet wings for a LONG time.. Some of it was quite damp, but a minute or so in the microwave fixed that..
