Ukey-40 (Square loops II)

This weekend, I continued the trimming and engine puttering on the Twister. Still didnt get an observer, so it's same as before. But am getting closer to a consistent engine run now.

But I did get the new Ukey 40 practice plane up and running well.

.25FP stock, 9-4 Tornado magnum, 2 oz uniflow plastic clunk, stock muffler, Bru-line fine. Launched at about 11,400.

It flies right on 5.0 sec laps with 2 wheel gear.

I was able to do my first complete, in-sequence beginner pattern!! (well, I knew it was the pattern!)

I used some of the techniques for starting the squares from the other thread and some were even recognizable as squares. Now that I have a low-budget (time wise) practise plane, I hope my flying will progress.

My twelve year old son also did his first solo laps yesterday with the ukey 40--he was quite proud of not crashing since he has seen me go in on several occasions. Now I can pit for him!

The Ukey is indeed ugly, but it does fly pretty well--I had some issues of quality of assembly but need to get with Joe Just on these before talking about them here. The .25 seems well matched to this setup.

Just wanted to know how the balance point turned out on the 40 with the FP 25. Furthermore, do you have plenty of line tension with the 25?? With my fp40, I have gobs of it. Lap times are right on 5 seconds here as well.

I had to add two 1/4" steel nuts over the tail skid. maybe 1/2oz.

Also added another 1/8oz or so of solder wrap when I changed to the APC 10-4 prop.

I wouldnt say I had gobs of tension, but as long as I keep the lap times under 5.0 sec on the 60' lines, I can do the overhead eights without trouble.

The CG is right on the spar at half span.

Have you noticed that the spars are actually swept back? Or is this just a mfg tolerance issue on mine?
