Tank Width problems

OK...I got a Brodak wide wedge uniflow tank kit from SSW to put in the ne SV-40/Vector. The plans and as-built fuse width inside dimension is right on the nose at 2"

The tanks are advertised to be 1 x 2 x length.

The smiths tank, same stated size and looks to be the pattern for the brodak tanks was under by about 1/32 across the end caps.

The new tank however, is 2+ a hair on the tank body and about 2-1/16 across the end caps. It wont go into the fuse without mashing the sides of the balsa.

Anyone else have this problem? any reasonable solution?

I ended up re-building the smiths tank and cleaning the rust out of it. (why I bought the new one to begin with) But it drops right into to 2" wide fuse.

PS: the 2" wide tanks are the ones recommended by brodak for this fuse.

This may sound brutal, but I've done it a couple times with good results. Use a small hammer and slightly crush the corners down until the tank will go into place. Touch up the corners with a soldering gun if you've caused a leak. Install and go flying!

AAAHhh....the old "Cut-to-suit and hammer-to-fit" solution...I know it well.

You make it sound terrible, more brutal then it really is, I shutter!!! But yes, you're right.

The first two or three times this happened to me, I used a long tube and cut grooves into the tank box sides. And yes I did a lot of cussing. After that I always build up the engine crutch with the tank as part of the crutch to make sure it fits. I adjust everything to go around it. Saves a lot of agravation later and I have had to make a few tanks "cause nuttin else would woik."

Had a similar prob in my son's All Am Sr., using a Brodak MEDIUM wedge, which is about 1 3/4 to 1 7/8. If you have the length, this will work for you, check the catalog for dimensions for various capacities.
