I'm making a super finnish on my next ship.

Question:

Is light silkspan the best option? I mean, the whole thing.

Or corn starch and dope?

Or one of 'em new water soluble urethanes, like Miniwax:

You are asking a loaded question, Ion. Generally use medium silkspan over everything if you are using dope. It fills with less dope and filler than light. Use the talc/dope or cornstarch/dope or whatever filler over everything but the open bays. Then sand it all off except for what remains in the grain.

If you are using something else, well, there will be other responses.

You can use baby powder, although some have mentioned problems due to the scent (which may be an oil) we have used this stuff in the past with no known problems. But if you want unscented, try a billiards supply or a place that caters to gymnastics.

As to amount, we have followed the 1/3 rule. About 1/3 clear dope, 1/3 colored dope (so you can see it), and 1/3 talc. For the color, if you are going to use a blocking coat (silver or polar grey) that is good. Or even your final color can be used if it is easy to see (black, red). Thin to a good, thick, brushing or spraying consistency. You aren't worrying about evenness, just coverage. After you brush or spray on your first coat and then sand, you will have areas you will have to back to. Don't sand through the paper (but if you don't sand through a couple of spots, you probably didn't sand enough.) So, when you do sand through an area, apply a patch with the edges torn all around. It will blend in much easier that way. Put the patch down with clear, dab on a bit of filler over the top, and sand away again.

I already sanded away 2 coats of "stool pigeon" paint, just to see any imperfections

I am using corn startch, the rule is KEEP IT THIN!

1 part dope, 1 part filler and lots of thinner!

About the talk you can use any brand, but if you don't like the scents, use odeless.

I would use Johnson & Johnson baby talc, my "baby" deserves the best!

I have your article on the miniwax, but my computer is brokenI did not print it.

Well, I can send you a MADE IN BRAZIL .46
Stunt engine that is GOOOOOD!!

Same power as a ST .51. I'm going to start breaking mine in tomorrow.

If the RO Jett propaganda is right (a "tight" ABC engine is good)you gotta see this baby...

I found only shiny water soluble stuff, not the satin kind.
Is that OK?

Yeah, I got a cousin that works at Taurus, and she's good looking too...
