Back in USA

Hi I'm back from Japan, living in Naples FL while daughter finishes HS here. Working on getting a new Peacemaker (profile 37" natch, always my ONLY ship aside from a full sized Fight Streak for my hefty MVVS .15s) and I will hang a Fox .15 2bb CS schneurle, my favourite current CL glow engine on it. Looking forward to 78 mph laps on 52.5' lines classic Commonwealth/Japanese/intl CL.
Peacemakers and Flight Streaks only for now... my other modelling interest is rubber FF scale

This plane balances and flies about like the original 1957 Ollie Tiger matching with an OS .15FP and a good bit stronger with the Fox 2bb schneurle .15 CS. Gotta lovem.

That is the first I have hear of this problem. I think it might be some other issue you have with your own properties/service. The only popup Geocities normally sends is the little Yahoo drop down in the corner. A Lycos free service is another story.... popup city.
It is a yahoo website. Sorry Geoff for the inconvenience though, I will try to look into it and see what I can do if the fault is with my host.

Nate: Something is bothering me re your Type 95 entry on your website.

The background you selected for your model is very similar to the '30s era background for the real thing, as depicted in the black and white photo with it.

They couldn't be the same place?

That's a yupper, former Imperial Army Airfield at tsutzumi-ga-oka, Gunma Town, Gunma Ken (former Maebashi Airfield 1943-45, used by the Kumagaya Army Flight School, Maebashi detachment, then by the nearby Nakajima Company as a satellite repair depot and it was a remote fighter landing field during night air defense ops agai.nst the B-29s.
The photos are in the identical place.
The black and white photo of the 95 in flight, backlit, climbing, close-up...that is a couple blocks away from my house in Gunma. It now stands on the vacant plot right under the tail in that picture.
The tall trees at center bottom are still there, that was and is the Suwa Hrine Temple on the Shibukawa-takasaki Road. The field is in the backlit glare in the upper left, 1 km approx.
Some of the other bw pics show training ops at Kunsan, Korea (Koreans were then Japanese subjects). Korea vets on the list might recognize the mountains.

You remind me of that Brit mag, "After the Battle". They return to battlefields, or scenes of significant WW 2 action, and photograph it as it is today. And compare to the old b & w photos of the same place in the '40s.

Great mag, and I recommend it to all WW 2 historians.

Currell!!! Great to hear form you! See, survived that year in China fine, but didn't get to fly CL there at all. No activity where I was (seashore NE of Beijing, Beidaihe/Qinhuangdao/Shanhaiguan area) Hobby Shop in Qinhuangdao (pop 3,000,000+) was just hanging on selling children's clothes on the side. No RC activity either there. Seems like it was all banned. But they don't allow people to buy or even register motorcycles or scooters there now, either. Tightly controlled seachore and port area.
How is the Musciano kit flying going?

Nate: First answer my question about the Type 95!

For the Musciano meet, I will have a couple of surprises, which I will reveal at the Meet itself. Last year, I was on my way to the first 60+ mph Proto Speed run, when my bellcrank pulled out of my ME-109 on Lap 7. My old red job that won in '01 got second, though.

We are having an Unlimited Event this year too, whereby you can (as I understand it) bring anything that Walt designed, irrespective of size. Not counting the boats and cars, I guess. So, I am driving down for a change, and no airport hassles. Just take the Camry, and fill it full of planes.

I see that OS has a parts breakdown set for a CL version of the LA.15, that is perfect for 40" ships like the PM. 138 grams, with .15 FP-S venturi It is listed as LA .15 CL, # 11535 15LA-S CL
Have used it in Japan on the PM.
The metallic blue could be mighty handsome with some color schemes.

Welcome back. If I remember correctly, at the timeframe you stopped posting you had just started using the "new" OSFP .15 with the rear needle valve in combat matches using a profile PM and a Smousen.

Yes, that is right. I had a lot of fun with the Smousen design too.
The OS.15FP rn gave great service on various ships, never used less that 20% AAA castor in it, and it is still going STRONG.
On the PM, I used an 8x4 wood on the FP-s for best results. Weeeeeeeeeee just like the CS Ollie MkIII with its 7.5x6 (they are slightly tuned, you prop the stock OllieIII/PM match with an 8x6). The fuel economy was exceptional even with 70 meth/10 nitro/20 AAA castor. Wood prop helped offset the silencer/pressure manifold weight. Spacer out.
I note that the parts breakdown for the LA .15 cl shows the FP-S venturi if anybody is wondering.

Hello Nate, I enjoyed the pictures on your website, you have some very nice rubber powered free flight models. Was your Pitcairn Mailwing built from a kit or did you scratch build from plans? If it was the latter, did you use the Cleveland 1/24th scale plans?

There is a CL contest every January in Brookville area that features Hal DeBolt designs. Straight up 41 from you or 75 would be a lot quicker.
