"The Blustery Day" LCLF Fun Fly (pics).

Well, the first ever LCLF Fun Fly is a wrap(July 26)! Thanks to some hard work from the club members it came off rather well we think. Friday night started with about two hours of circle prep ready for a Sat. a.m. start time. We cut the take off ramps extra close with the Lawn Boy,..marked off circle centers, 70'ft circle diameters and did a general clean up of the two circle's perimeters with a riding mower brought in just for the occasion(Thanks Wesley and family!). Our "man in side" (Dan Smith of Bayer Inc.) did a nice job prepping' the two circles with the monster mower earlier in the week. It was not very hard for us to tidy up a bit and get even better results with little effort. Best circle conditions to date. I think we just spoiled ourselves. If they had landing gear they rolled off the ground for take offs. A treat and nice break from hand launches. Thanks Dan and members!

Yellow caution tape did a rather nice job of keeping people and planes far enough apart and brought some order to the area of the circles and pits.

Flying started around 10:00 after some light rain showers. Bill Trumble put the "Orange" through the paces, followed by Jorge Leenhouts and his "Hi-Low". Conditions where some what gusty but pilots were not deterred. The LCLF would like to thank our visiting pilots who made the trip to fly, visit, and bench race with us. Thank you: Ken Towers (and grandson), John Perry, Frank Carlisle, John Paris, Jim Morway, Brad LaPoint, and Lou Scavone.

Aircraft ran the gamut from Fox .15/Ringmaster, Magician/Johnson .35, FP-40/Nobler, La-46/Mustang , Webra.32 on pipe Europa, to FAI-combat ship demo's. I'll shut up now and let the pictures do the talking.

Quick side note: As luck (or lack there of?) would have it Wesley (one of our Jr. pilots) broke his ankle in two places prior to the Fly, so was out of handle action for the day, but not down. With the help of his mother, brother and dad, he had the BBQ plate going and kept anybody interested, in hot dogs and drinks all day long. I dropped a few bucks there myself. A welcome extra that we had not planned for. Great job Wesley,..Sorry about the foot,..OUCH

After looking at the following the question begs to be asked: "Would you let this man teach you to fly?"

Tony, Bruce and other Lambton Flyers,
Jim and I had a great time at your flying site. You all did an outstanding job on the field and the concessions were a great idea (Got to remember to exchange some cash for next time). We are looking forward to getting together with you guys again in the future on one of your normal Sunday flys and of course to the second annual Fun-Fly next year.

Oh yeah, enjoyed the wind. Helped keep me on the right side of the circle. Besides it is great for contest practice.
