I figured I pass some useful info. This applies to the latest batch of Brodak 40 engines:

1) Brodak 40 can spin 2 inch diameter prop without any damage to the motor! Ask me how I found out.

2) Backplate bolts are too short(4mm?). If one is not careful, it's easy to strip the tread on the case during assembly. Replace them with 8mm ones.

OK Steve, how did it happen? It may sound familiar to me! Back when I flew carrier, I was known as Kamakaze Cucci. Ha.

Never stunt on an overlean engine!!

3rd turn on the triangle maneuver, BAM!!!, major pancake! The plane bounced back in the air, the motor spinning like crazy with the blades chopped off almost all the way to the hub. It still pulled the plane for another 1/3 of a lap before I forced it into the ground.

This last accident brought my season score to 5 pankakes, 7 inverted landings, 1 runaway motor and one major nose in! I dare anyone to beat that!

Come on down to Tulsa. We have a member in our club who could give you a run for your money. We could call it the World's anti-expert championship! (anti-expert being the diametrical opposite of expert)

Funny guy you are.

What are you going to have for a grand prize: sezied motors, broken props and burnt out plugs?

My trusty Banshee survived. It got new landing gear and lighter wheels(1.5 oz weight savings). If it survives this week, I'll be bringing it to Northampton. I'm also trimming my ARF Nobler just in case.

I am thinking of bringing a couple of motors to swap: a tricked out Fox35(ABC,HEMI,Backplate), OS 25FP, OS 40FP and Super Tigre C-35.

Considering that my planes have a very short "lifespan", I'll be looking for replacement victims, err, I mean airplanes.

Well, yah got me beat. I have only two pancakes, five inverted landings, and two nose ins and two into the weeds to save the plane. It all boiled down to one darn engine that I put too much faith in.
BUT, how many Zeros have you crashed into flight decks with? And won the Blue Max in the process, and all this while serving in the US Navy? Strange but true. Yahhaddabethere.

Never stunt on an overlean engine!!

How's that pathfinder coming along?

The best time to fly is when you have fuel and a plane. SteveD

>How's that pathfinder coming along?

In a word: slowly. Every free moment I get, I practice on my Banshee for the contest. Last week I set up painting equipment outside to paint the Pathfinder but as my luck would have it, humidity was 99% all the time. I was able to spray 2 coats of clear and one coat of clear/cornstarch though. I also have to re-cover one of the wingtips as it came out really bad. I also used Larry Cunningham's method of covering fuselage with nitrate dope and lightweight fiberglass with silkspan on top of that. The fuse is very rigid now!

So far, it looks as if the plane will come out real nice! Hopefully, it will not pancake as much as my other planes

I suppose that depends upon how much the pilot likes flapjacks!

I'm contemplating wearing a chef's hat to the Northampton contest.
