This kit looks like a winner. It does have a few drawbacks but nothing that can't be upgraded with ease. Now when looking at the fuel tank and it's placement in the fuse I believe that a flyer will need to be engine specific when choosing a power plant. I know this model was drawn up and around the OS40LA. However from my personal experience with the 40LA, I believe that I might try a OS25LA.

From what I have read and heard this engine should have the power of a 35 size engine. Now has anyone installed this engine into the new Top Flight ARF Nobler? If you have, how successful is the combination and by that I mean will it fly the pattern? I want all the POOP.

How does she handle in the overhead 8 and the hour glass?

I belive Mike Pratt used this engine in his new profile which finished at or right under the weight of the Nobler finished.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
MikeC

One thing to watch out: TF Nobler ARF is indeed designed for 40LA. CG is supposed to be 2.5" from LE with that motor AND the stock muffler(read brick muffler). Sticking a 25 will require lots of noseweight to bring CG forward.

P.S. I have Brodak 40 in mine and CG is at 3" from LE.

I don't think that is true. Tower may wish you to use their LA40 and muffler, but when I also look at the lead they add to the tail (in the instruction booklet), it is pretty clear that a lighter engine is better. I went with a Brodak 40 with the tongue muffler. It flies great and I am "lead-free"!

My only comment about the 25LA is that I have had problems finding the right prop to use (APC 9-4 or 10-3 were the only two which I could get to run reasonably well). Admittedly this was on a Ukey 35, and so my conclusions may be off for the Nobler. I would wait until we have someone actually run the LA25 on the Nobler.

Alan,

How far back did you mount B40 on the engine bearers? What is the distance from the firewall to the mounting lugs? How far from the LE is CG? Did you use stock tank?
