It Has Happened

Well, it has happened. The "It Is Time" post has spurred a lot of registering (or relearning how to log in) by a lot of people, but we just got our first attempt at using a bogus name (the same name with which someone has used for harrassment) and a bogus e-mail.

Now the forum is purposely set up so that you must get your first password by e-mail. This forces you to use a true e-mail address. You also cannot change your log-in name once your have registered, which keeps people from changing this to something bogus.
And you cannot register again with the same e-mail address. (I can do it for you if it is necessary. Just contact me by e-mail. Several people asked to change their log-in name which I then did for them.)

However, if someone abuses the system, I can not only lock them out, but I can lock out their e-mail so that they cannot register again. It is also possible to lock out Hotmail, Juneau, etc., if people start abusing that.

It would be best to register with your "real" e-mail, if possible, and hope we don't run into somone abusing the system in this way.

Oh, yes, if the person who attempted to register with a bogus e-mail would contact me, maybe we could get your squared away.

It bounced as no such address. I don't have to test the e-mail addresses. I have things set up that I get an e-mail notification every time someone registers with their user name and password they were issued. If someone were to use an obscene name, or something else imappropriate, I would delete it immediately and, if necessary, lock out the e-mail. But if someone uses a fake e-mail, it bounces back to me as "no such address". Gotcha!

Leonard gets a notification of all new members, to include their email address. Additionally, the password is emailed to the new or reregistered user's email account. If the email account is bogus, then the email is bounced back, and Leonard finds out.
