George Aldrich needs all of our prayers

I am sorry to inform all of you that George Aldrich is very ill with Bone Marrow Cancer. I talked with him last night and he is weak in body, but strong in spirit. Take time to keep him and his family in prayer and if possible send him a card to let him know you are thinking of him. He is an irreplacable part of the sport of model aviation and I am glad to be able to call him my friend and a brother in Christ.

I'm glad this got posted. GMA told me about it in an e-mail a few days ago, said he wasn't broadcasting it though. I sent back he should let folks know how he is, as emotional support of friends as well as family is vital to recovery. He has touched people all over the world with his work for decades, and he is indeed indespensible. Get well George, we need you.

I, too, am sad to hear about George and consider him a good friend. Although we may have disagreed on occasion (which is something a friend reserves the right to do, but it should not affect their friendship) George goes back a lot longer than most of us and is very knowledgeable of many phases of the hobby. His contributions are, also, long lasting and I wish him well.

But when one is a Christian, he is already in better hands than any of us can offer by ourselves. Take comfort in that, George.

Thank you for letting us know the unfortunate news about George. I never had the privilege of meeting him. However, since I was a kid and George and his Nobler were the epitome of CLPA, he has been a presence in my life. Only many years later when I spoke with George via phone and email did I learn what a kind, supportive, and encouraging person he is.
We all know the feeling of regret that comes from not letting someone know during his or her life how we feel about them. Please take the time to send George a card or letter to support and encourage him and to thank him for all that he has done and is,and, hopefully, will continue to do and be.

Just talked to George. The chemotherapy is rough on him. He just had a treatment yesterday and he is pretty beat up by it. He does check his email every day, so please write him that way or by snail mail. He appreciates the prayers too.

Oh my, what sad news about such a great guy. Please, George, whip the bad guy's butt. We aren't through with you yet!

For those who haven't had the pleasure and honor of knowing George personally, let me assure you that he is all of everything you've heard about him and is the classic example of what's wonderful and special about stunt and the people who populate its little world. Talented, bright, innovative and personable to the nth degree, George took much from the event...but gave back much, much more. It's an honor to have temporary custody of a trophy in my home with his name on it twice, the first in 1952 and the last in 1957. The Walker Cup says a lot about those whose names are on it but, especially in George's case, not remotely all there is to know.
