Have any of you contest directors ever compiled a contest checklist?
Or is everything that needs to be done stored away inside your heads?

Very curious about this as I'm very interested in becoming a CD.
Currently I have one of the most experienced CD's in the midwest as a mentor. De Hill. He amazes me with how he pulls everything together every September, but his checklist is in his head.

Here is a list of things I've started, could some of you add to this?

AMA sanction #
Sponsors
Entry Forms
Score Sheets
Judges
Tabulators
Runners
Pull testers
Score board
trophies
Pit areas and misc Barriers
Marking circles
Advertisements (websites)
Food and Drink
Toilet facilities
Map and phone number to nearest emergency facility
Contact local media
Equipment:
Clip boards
Pencils/pens/markers
horns/whistles
stop watches
pull tester
First aid kit

...?

We have copies of the AMA Event Directors guide and a PAMPA CD guide. But it is more of an outline than a check list.

CD Guide is 2.00 plus .50 postage

PAMPA Products

or fax order form from SN to 734-266-7273

Hi, Rick- I've been told that the main thing you need is the right Event Directors. These people do ALL the chores mentioned on your checklist and tell you when they're done. All the CD does is sit around getting his drink on and his snack on and wait to handle a protest. But he/she should never have to handle a protest, though, because the Event Director will already have that solved! You only have to remember to send in the contest report. Good Event Directors will have this filled out for you- even stamped and ready for you to mail! Like I said in the beginning, this is what I've been told. So join all us CDs and see for yourself and give De a breather! Best regards,

I guess that's why AMA now thinks that CDing a contest is only worth half of a year's AMA membership dues. Somebody must have told that the CD's have it too easy since the ED's do all the work. HA!

My checklist...
Worry
beg
steal
borrow
plead
screw up (Sorry Mike G.)
give up and run the ##### contest.
what happens will happen and if they don't like it, let them run it next year. One thing I've found out, they complain but never take the job away from you.

All seriousness aside, the satisfaction a CD enjoys is when the contest is over and you know that you've run the show to further model aviation. Very occassionally a problem might arise and the Rulebook usually maps out the direction to take. It leaves room for discretion and common sense. People head back home and are eager to come back again. They know you run a good, SAFE, show. CDs, EDs, Judges are all required- they do it for the betterment of all. You'd be a good one, Rick. All the best,

Dale,
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm looking forward to the day when I can give something back to all the people that have helped me.
Thanks again Dale hope to see you in Tulsa around the end of September, and bring a bunch of them Dallas guys with you.
