Northampton 2003 Report: Noblers

I had a pleasure of spending 2 days flying with the most interesting and fun bunch of people one could ever imagine. While there I took some pictures with my new digital camera. I hope others can fill in with the details of who flies what as I am awfull with names(Bill, where are you?).

This is one of the most beautiful Noblers I've ever seen. I don't know if you can see it, but there is a reflection of the horizontal stab in the vertical stab!

Speaking of Noblers, here's the wing of Noblarfs as they were aptly nicknamed(rhymes with the word barf ) The closest one is mine.

And no New England gathering can be without Dave Cook's entry! His 'right flying' Nobler is the one on the background. I've no idea what the contraption on the front is:

All in all, there were 7 Noblers flying that day. Dave's Nobler had a tank problem(I think) and one of the Noblarfs was parked as well for the contest but all of them put in at least one flight.

Saturday Classic event was a very special event for me. This was the first time I flew in Intermediate! I was kicking butts and taking names. Well, not really . I still have no idea wether I brough up the rear of the pack that day.

Tha one is Jim Borelli's plane. I saw it at Brodak's and it is REALLY a nice example! The colors are really intense.

That all-white Old Timer in the foreground is Dave Cook's "Trixter Invert", a Lou Andrews design from the late 1940s. It has a 4-stroke in it.

Steven, your enthusiasm this weekend was infectious! Thanks very much to you and all the flyers and friends who made the meet successful. Mike Keville moves 3000 miles, comes to enjoy the flying, so we draft him to judge! Peabody spent a weeks salary on raffle tickets, and WON the Stunt News Profile Cardinal with Brodak 40! Great stuff!

Until fairly recently I had the remains of that ship, really just the wing. It was built by my brother in about 1950. It still remains as one of the ugliest planes ever designed and kitted. My opinion only

What you didn't say was how well you did at the contest. I was running scores for judges Bob & Gary Hill sunday, so I saw you did well for your first Intermediate contest. As I recall you brought home a trophy too. Your touch and go pullout during a practice flight was breath taking (you planned that didn't you?)

Speaking of breath taking, James Sumner's Wright flyer triplane flying on one engine for half the pattern was a highlight. Jim didn't know so he soldiered on. It seemed like the prelude to a crash that fortunately, just didn't happen. A picture of Jim's plane is on another thread.

Impressive stuff and a good contest, which I enjoyed very much. Thanks for putting the posts up for others to see.
