Fox .59 Stunt

I scored a Fox .59 short shaft on *-bay for cheap. It was listed under another name. I was wondering if you can still get gaskets/parts for the older Fox engines. I serched Fox .59 on the forum but didn't come up with much. It looks pretty good in the photos but I'm wondering if I bought a conversation peice. Has anyone had any luck/experience with a .59?

You can always make your own gaskets with some care. Even those thin ones can be replaced with Permatex, and the engine will not know the difference.

Yours is probably an engine worth saving. The late Clarence Bull had a Fox 59 long shaft with ignition points! Now that is an engine to think about in your dreams!!

Big Art Admisin had a lot of experience with this engine. I have one, and asked his advice on application. With the long stroke, it develops lotsa torque, and a large prop is recommended.

I think you'll find Big Art used an aluminum head gasket in place of the fiber one to both control gasket compression and also improve cooling.

I wish that the one that I bought was the Long shaft .59 but the one I got was the Short Shaft .59 I'll probably just clean it up and stash it. (it's the only Fox that I own) It was listed on *-Bay as "Old Cox type R/C Model Airplane Parts". Alot of people buy this stuff from estate sales and really don't know what it's worth. I find that if you use the "Favorites" section on the "My *-Bay" section you can set-up a search engine that will email you if something interesting comes up. I use "Old Engine" "Old Model" "Vintage" "Lot" "OS V" etc. It works, I've scored some real good deals on model stuff.
