Enya 35#0 source
I've got two of these engines, both with model 5224 on the crankcases, but one is a plain bearing and the other is twin ballraced with a square intake. There's a pdf file at
http://www.wcaero.fsnet.co.uk/files/enya%20engines.pdf which shows 4 different 35's and I'm wondering just which ones I've got. Are they the 35-III or the 35-V versions? Is the ballraced engine retimed from the plain bearing version? Any help would be appreciated

I have both the square and round venturi versions of the Enya 5224 29 and 35's both plain and BB versions, I'm grey on the exact figures for these motors but to the best of my knowledge they are both timed the same. incidentally the 5225 that I have has only has one rear bearing they also made plain and bb versions of the 09 and 19 but I've never seen a bb 15 enya.
If you plan on running them drill and tap them for a tongue muffler, Your fellow flyers and neighbors will be thankful. These are some of the loudest motors that I've ever had the pleasure of owning

Dennis, I think around 1959 or so, when Enya made their .15BB diesel, they also made a .15 "racing" engine. Unfortunately, neither became popular and fell by the wayside. There was LOTS of engine development during the late 50's - early 60's.

My Enya .29 has two cylinder heads with it. The high compression one (I think) is for FAI fuel and the low compression one is for Nitro. It runs much smoother with the low compression head. It also came with three intake sizes like Bob Z's .35.

I think my .35 came with extra stuff also. Can't remember for sure and it's packed away. The .29 is a PB with square intake and the .35 is a PB with round intake.

PS. Afterthought. I may be confusing Enya with OS on the .15 engines.

Downunder - in the 60's, we had some very good results with the square intake plain bearing ENYA 35's (#5224). They were delivered with two heads and three venturis along with a very precise needle valve. Depending on conditions, we used the smaller or middle size venturi. The engine was so well fitted that it used no gaskets but we found that using one .005" head shim was helpful even with the low compression head. At that time, we were pretty much into the Fox Superfuel which was, as I recall, 5% nitro, 29% castor. I still have the engine and it runs like new. One of our clubmembers recently tried the ball bearing #5225 and was not pleased - seemed to like to run fast.
Hope this helps, Bob Z

I have the twin BB 35 and it is loud and it shakes. I added head gaskets and now it runs 2-4 like a fox 35 in a twister. It works good

For stunt use use the #1 venturi, if you don't have the #1 use the #3 and add a chunk of balsa that chokes off about 1/2 of the venturi. I ran one of the 5224s for years on Fox Super Fuel and on Duke's Fuel in a nice continuous solid run with a small 4-2-4 break. A real solid engine that will last forever when treated right. They took a while to break in and like mufflers that let them breath a little. A tongue muffler may resrtict it too much. The stock Enya mufflers are too large. The Tatone peace pipe muffler works well and with a little grinding you can open it up a bit. No one ever used the high compression head but if you do, no nitro or 5% should work well. I always prefered the plain bushed engine because of the weight factor. Big Art has done very minor timing mods to this engine to get it to do a 4-2-4. I think the early versions were timed a bit different because he would take the newer bearing front end and add it to the early version. The plastic box with the yellow foam appeared it 1965 under the MRC lable, before that they came in the red and yellow box under the Enya Metal Products lable. Jim Johnson
