Brodak Strega

The Brodak Stregas have finally arrived. I have seen Windy's original, but I didn't realize how big it is. 48 inches long, 60 inch span, 762 square inches. This Brodak kit uses all laser cut parts, and it includes the standard hardware plus tip box and adjustable leadout guide. And the price remains the same as the other larger kits. List price is $109.99. John needs to change his prop recommendations, though. He suggests a .51-.60 size engine (4-stroke anyone?) and then suggests an 11 x 6 prop. I haven't opened any of the kits and am not building one, so cannot do a product review. Just thought I would post this for those of you who were wondering (like myself) when the kit would come out.

Brodak's web site suggests a Brodak 40 with a 10-6 prop for the Legacy approx 60" span, 670 sq very fat airfoil, big tail surfaces, etc.
No doubt an error in proofreading or setting up the page as the B 40 is appropriately suggested for most other kits. I perhaps should have e mailed John on this earlier.

I still vote for a really strong 51, better still a conventional 60 for the Legacy. Conventional 60, and a good one, sounds like a minimum for the Strega.

Hmmm... interesting you would say that. I spoke to Kent tysor at length about his new Strega. Kent's new airplane is one the few Big Jim/PAtternmaster/Windy planes I have ever seen with a high thrust pipe motor installed.

I personally think the package showed some superior traits over a lot of the other designs, including less windup in the wind, and tremendous stability.

I have truly considered getting one of the kits. Anyone want to build the wing?

Woe is the fella that decides to inspect his STREGA, then put it back in the box! John spend several evenings figuring out exactly where each piece goes to make it fit! Interestingly, although the STREGA is a Windy model (a permutation of a Big Jim plane), the paint scheme chosen for the box top is that of Rich Giacobone...a little simpler.

FYI - according to Windy's website, the Strega kit price is $159.95.

I wish all the kit producers would just stop making kits for 18 months so I can get all mine built and then do the new ones. I can't seem to catch up and so many great kits just keep coming out. Boy, life is so unfair. Ha.
