The answer to your question is no,but not to far(20/miles)
north east in the city of Covina there is a small shop that still caters to control line.Check your email.

If you are talking about Whittier, CA, I think there is a moderately good shop on Whittier Blvd., but I haven't been there for years, and don't exactly remember the location. I think Joel Chesler has mentioned that he still goes there.

However there are two outstanding shops for CL in LA.

Covina Hobbies on Citrus in the Covina area.

T&A Hobby Lobby on Victory in Burbank.

Both these shops are like your old time LHS because they ARE your old time LHS, including the owners.

Don't count on having any spendable money left after a visit! <G>

Otherwise, there is a Hobby People on Beach at Imperial, another in Lakewood, and Hobby Warehouse in Lakewood. Jax Hobbies in Costa Mesa, Gyro Hobbies in Lake Forest, and Smith Brothers in Van Nuys.

I recall another great store out in Thousand Oaks. Anyone have the name and address?

Actually, a section listing the outstanding CL stores all over the country would be fun to have for those who have a chance to travel. I have been to Orange Blossom Hobbies in Miami, and have hear rumors of some superb stores in New Joisey.

I will dig up the exact addresses for the ones I know. Support your LHS, it is an endangered species!

Back when I was a kid and flew at Whittier Narrows, there used to be a hobby shop less than a mile from the field. Don't remember the name of it.

Does anyone remember?

Randy: You're probably talking about San Gabriel Hobbies, on Rosemead Blvd., about 1/2 mile from Whittier Narrows. They closed about 3 years ago. It's only 25 miles from Whittier to T&A Hobbies who carry everything under the sun for U/C. It's well worth the trip.

That's the place! When I was a kid, my cousin used to take me by there after flying sessions. I spent a lot of allowance at that store.

I always try to check out the hobby shops in places I travel to or through.

In Tulsa we have several hobby shops, but the ones that most of us CLer's use are Ultimate R/C and Wings and Things. believe it or not Ultimate R/C has the most CL stuff and it's owner Russ actually will order anything we want from Tower and Brodak.

Both these shops help sponsor our annual contest. Which BTW is coming up at the end of September.

I like Tony & Addie Hobby Lobby in Burbank, CA...Victory Blvd at Hollywood Way...it is 5 miles from Apollo flying field in the Sepulveda Basin.

Not really that far from Whittier Narrows...get a map.

They are primarily a "stick and tissue" kind of shop...all the Brodak control line, RSM, Umland. etc.

If you enjoy vintage free-flight, park fliers, whatever, it's there.

Just don't say, "helicopters?".!!!!

Lines, fuel, (25% castor Sig), GSM and Brodak tanks, silk, silkspan, polyspan, wheels, glow plugs, engines, lines, you ask for it, they got it.

The shop has been family owned and operated since 1952...the ceiling is a veritable museum of vintage control line, free-flight, radio stuff from the 50's, 60's, etc.

I kinda like the place, you see!

You forgot Freeflight endurance. He has one next to the balsa selves. Also indoor ceiling walkers. I love the free flight helos and respect the penni copter builders. Hopefully the blacksheep will run another helo fun fly. I have some good Bill Hannan Unicopters ready to kick butt. There is a really good r/c car (gas) shop close to the T&A's.

I heard there is a new Hobby shop about 10 miles east of Whittier Narrows on the Hacienda Blvd off the Pomona Fwy. Next time your at the field ask Ray Ebert about "Tony's". He has been there.
