new virus..

This morning my email had a "patch" from "Microsoft" which included the W32/Dumaru@MM virus. The virus checker caught it.

Just thought I would give you folks a heads up.

(Note that Microsoft NEVER emails out patches..)

I got the same email...didn't trust it cause it just didn't look right. glad I didn't open it. Thanks for the heads-up.

I also received one from "MS"...didn't say "Micro Soft", just "MS". I thought it looked fishy (normally, a good thing for sbasser), but since I have Winders 98SE that doesn't get hit by the latest viri, I didn't bother. Phew! I've also gotten dozens from recognizable CL Stunt fliers, J&J Hobbies, Carbon Models, some from AMA, "GaryPampa", etc., all 97kb to 102kb. It's keeping me busy, just dumping virus emails, tho I am confident in Yahoo! (they use Norton AV). I have also updated my AVG and scanned my computer, and it is ok. I have read about folks getting messages with subject line stating that they have been sending emails with a virus, but those are bogus and probably carry a virus. I have gotten a few of those recently, mostly from Japan (according to the address, which means nothing). We're not over this yet. I'm still thinking that the email list at PAMPA was used. Yesterday I got one from "GaryPAMPA", the first Gary in the list on PAMPA. Apparently, a website server cannot use a firewall, or strangers could not access the website, which is generally the goal. No, guys, it is not an e-mail list from PAMPA, here, or anywhere else but some individual's e-mail list. If somebody get's hit and infected, it gets their list and sends to everybody. If you are on their list, so are a bunch of others that they know. I even got one from me to me (since they randomly take the same lists to use as the sender). This bomb is set to use the infected computers to send out more spam and then it will delete itself.

Concerning E-Mail from MicroSoft about avoiding worms, viruses, etc: Like mentioned earlier, they do not send to E-Mail addresses. We got the same notice and it is bogus! Regards,

The ONLY email you'll ever receive regarding a legit virus threat would be from your ISP.

I feel like I'm missing the party - or perhaps I'm just not popular enough to be sitting in other folk's address books. I think the only address books are all in Nigeria

I'm afraid the "SoBig" virus is only getting started. This morning I received over 100 emails with it, between the PAMPA account and my work account..

You lucky guy. Between 11:30 last night when I shut down and 7:30 this morning, I had 138 new e-amils. Two were legit and the rest were viruses and junk.

And the day has just begun.
