Any tips on places to stay or eat in Muncie? Is it too late to make reservations for motels? We are not campers, so no need to include campsites.

There are usually motel openings in Muncie throughout the week.

I think the "official" PAMPA site is the Signature Inn. They have lower rates for AMA members. They may be booked.

We are staying at the Super 8 which is right next door. They have good daily rates and may or may not be full.

A place that will be available, that is close to the site, has a nice, inexpensive restaurant just a bit north of the motel, and it cheap (but is getting run down and not in as nice of a neighborhood.) is the Val U Lodge. (But I think they go by another name, now.) We have stayed here the last two years. Can't beat the rates--especially if you stay long term.

You should be able to get a room, except for Friday night. There's also some sort of triathalon in town Saturday. The good places to stay are the Signature Inn, Lee's Inn, Comfort. These are on the opposite side of town from the site, but it's not the LA basin, so it usually only takes 15 minutes. If you want to stay the whole time, you might end up having to stay in Anderson, which is still pretty close. I'm sure the Ramada has rooms, but it's not in a good area. Plus, you might get taped to a lamp post.

There's a wide range of restaraunts. The best used to be Van's, at he airport, but I haven't been there since they re-opened. FoxFire is very high-falutin', right be the Signature. There's also the usual fast-food places. When everybody stayed at he Rmada, the 10th Street Cafe was a great place to eat lunch, but it's pretty far out of the way for the others.

Hey, thanks a lot! For the rest of you procrastinators, Signature is sold out Fri, Sat, Sun. We got Motel 8 Sat and Sun, but they are sold out Fri. The Big Strong Handsome Wife is happy, as that means one more day of family vacation, and one day less of a model vacation. I would have preferred the reverse.

I suppose we can slip over to the Signature pool from Motel 8? Maybe leaving some castor oil slicks in the pool?

The NJ rabble generally stays at the Ramada (which is pretty much a dump).

Me, I roll out my tent'n fartsack and stay on the grounds. There is a great lake at the State Park for swimming and boating, if you're inclined.

There is generally a ton of car racing in Indiana this time of year, but things appear screwed up.... Anderson has a terrific 1/4 mile track that uns Fridays.

The Auburn, Cord, Dusie museum is a must. Been there twice, and thanks to Peabody's reminder, I'll make another visit.

Larry, you realize, of course, that the Stunt finals are on Saturday morning, and by noon it is all over for us. Most of the other CL stuff is done by then, too. You may want to look into getting something a little earlier. "Top 20" day is on Friday. That is a "biggie".

Thanks a ton! I was indeed a day off, and we have moved all the reservations.

Well I live about 25 minutes SW of Muncie and there are a few good places to eat on the North side (McGalliard Rd.) of town such as the Olive Garden, Outback Steak House, Chi Chi's, and the Sirloin Stockade. As far as places to stay I would try to find a Motel on the North side due to the fact the south side of town is really becoming kinda rough and not a real good area any more especially late at night. I use to work on the South side of Muncie and it really just started going down hill like this the past 2 or 3 years because all of the big factories have moved out causing alot of the smaller buisness's to go under thus causing alot of unemployment and poverty in the area.
Mabey I will see some of you there, I am a pretty big fella and will be mainly on the C/L combat and speed sides.
