I'm a little envious of the guys with the huge fleets of planes ready to fly. Space here just doesn't give me the pleasure of hanging on to too many planes. Whenever we get a interested newcomer show up where we fly, I usually give away one of my suitable planes for the skill level. These re-cycled planes have given a lot more joy to the new owners than they would me, hanging on the wall. No recriminations here, just the way I have to handle the space problem of excess planes.
I try to keep at least two good competition planes available. same with Pro 40 planes, Classic, and there's always a few that don't really fit any category.
Currently, hanging on the walls, are a Legacy with a Stalker .61 RE. There's a full bodied Pathfinder Mark 4 that I flew at the 95 Nat's, powered with a modified OS .40 fp. It's due for retirement, or a major re-trimming session.
There's a Brodak PathFinder Mark 2 that I use in Pro .40, and often as a backup to my Legacy. It's currently being tested out with a Brodak .40 for power. there were a few things I didn't like about the original engine, An Os .40 fp with major mods done by Glen Dye.
There's a Profile Cardinal, powered by an La .46 with a Mac's muffler. On the other wall, there's a Classic legal Flite Streak twin, sporting a pair of Os .20's. I also have a Shieks designed Beech Staggerwing that is currently being re-powered. I want to stay with the .40 for this one, but may have to power it with a ST .46, as it's a bit overweight. It gained some weight being built as a complete take apart airplane.
On the bedroom wall is scratch design, by yours truely, called the Magma. It's a non flapped, twin boom design that is being used as a test bed for some design ideas. It's powered with an OS .20 fp. It's a scale down from the actual plane which calls for an OS .40 fp that should be run in the high-low condition. The scale down version shows a lot of promise, but came out too heavy, and glides, power off, like a brick.
Those are the planes currently in flying condition.
On the building boards, are Gordan Delaney's Tony, and a Brodak Vector. Summer is not a good time for me to be building, so these have set dormant all summer.
I'm also considering a new Classic plane, but have not yet decided which one it will be.
I do have the ribs all cut and ready for Jean Pailets Zephyr, a design I find interesting, but memories of my original Elelctra, built in 93-4, keep pulling me for another go at it.
I'm wondering why everything is spinning around?
