RED TAIL HAWK 0 -ORIENTAL 4

Today flying my very old profile oriental with a new Tom Lay McCoy 40 I was buzzed four times by a Hawk that had it in for me. Four close passes on at a good rate of speed. It was only my "SKILL" that saved my plane...... Anyway five years ago my POWWOW became pray and managed to servive.

In the Spring I have problems with the Purple Martins. They go crazy as soon as the engine cranks up.

Dem Red Tails are protected birds you know! I was lucky enough to have a house with 3 1/2 acres in CA, of which I could only use 1/2, since the rest was protected habitat for them critters. Too hilly to fly on anyway.

Actually, I love red tailed hawks, they taste just like chicken!

I thought they tasted like Spotted Owl?

Sometimes we see a red-tailed hawk around our flying field, but he never bothers us. He just flies around way up where the R/C birds are and leaves us alone. In the spring we have issues with geese...

A couple years ago at a local contest I had a red tail fly into my circle and try to attack my Chief during the cloverleaf. Fortunately he didn't get the airplane, but I lost my pattern points because the maneuver was unrecognizable due to my evasive moves.

I will say this though, if I was a bird, that's the kind I'd want to be!

Back in the late 70's I was an outside club sponsor for the Clipped Wings club inside the prison in Walla Walla. During a "fun fly" one Sunday afternoon I did a wing over and hit a Seagull that had just come up over the wall behind the kitchen (you remember that wall don't you Dan?) Total wipeout of both plane and Gull! It was really funny until I attempted to walk too close to the wall where the gaurd tower was place. I was then told to move out, identify myself and get away from the wall. I didn't think it was a big deal until I noticed the guard had me in his sights! Took some explanation, but I finally got permission to retrieve the aplane and engine. I left the bird there.

You did attempt the manuver correct? An attempt = minimum points and allows for pattern points. The only way you should have lost pattern points is if you just flew around evading the bird and didn't at least attempt a part of the manuver.

At the time I was so stunned I did not try to finish the maneuver, I was just glad to pull out and get it on the ground in one piece. I did fly my best pattern on the second flight but over-ran by 5 seconds due to a hard start. Duhh!!! Live and learn.

Guys, Just take your trained Falcon with you. OK, Who is going to design a new plane called the Peregrin with a full length razor in the leading edge? Ya, thats it, paint it like a Bald Eagle. Man, hope a plane like that would never bust the lines and free flight.
