One thing I like the most about this site is when photo's of everyone's planes are posted. I also know many of us as myself haven't yet mastered this trickery. Could everyone that can, post a photo of there plane's and mention some character areas to this work of art? Love the ideas I get from them.

Ben;

What is you engine setup, e.g. prop, venturi, fuel, etc? How do you like the way it flies?

Bob, My FP 40 is tottally stock with a lew woolard tongue muffler and an 11.5*4 prop, the engine is one of the last ones they made so it runs like a B 40 but with more power It came in the Blue Box and has a remote needle valve. it 4 2 4s very well, with two inches cut off the nose I had to put one ounce of tail weight though.. I am flying this airplane in intermediate and it seems to de a better flier than me..
I like it alot.. BEN PS, im running powermasters 10/29 for fuel..

Excellent idea! For those of us eternal begginers, please post photos and give online workshops, how to, etc. Also is there anybody that flies in the South Florida area? Thanks.

Here's the Brodak PathFinder I'm currently flying.

It's built with kit wood, MonoKote covered, Painted trim.

It features a recessed tank to help align the pickup closer to the venturii centerline.

In the picture it is powered by a modified OS .40fp with a tongue muffler. The prop shown is a Tornado 10-6 three blade.

It has now been re-fitted with a Brodak .40 which has been slightly modified. It uses a Bolly Clubman 10.5-5 pitch two blade prop.

After a rough start, the B-40 is showing promise with this particular plane. It was seriously lacking in power until the engine was modified. this particular B-40 was from the first batch imported into this country. Others that I've seen seem to have more power stock than this one did.

I'm wondering why everything is spinning around?

John, What was modified on your Brodak 40? Was it the timing? I think I have an earlier one as well. Inquiring minds would like to know......

You got it. Gordan Delaney has some expertise with OS engines. He's succesfully modified several fp's into excellent stunt engines. He and I checked the B-40 over very closely. The deck height, head shape, and crank timing are about right for what we want. The venturii is good, at about .305-.310, with the stock NVA. We found that there was only .007" difference between the opening of the exhaust, and the opening of the boost port.

By raising the exhaust port even with the top of the case opening, (about .005 ) we increased the rpm's where it was still in a 4 cycle. Before we did this, my example, and let me stress that, because my buddy Pete has a later one that turns an 11-5 at 11K in a four cycle, would only turn a BY&O 10-6, 8.8 to 9.0K before it would try to go into a 2 cycle. It maxed out under 10K.

Today, I mounted a Bolly Clubman 10.5-5, (I realise that this is a different prop than the BY&O, so it's not directly apples to apples.) It had no problem turning this prop at almost 10K in a four stroke. I wound up launching at 9.6K with a very good stunt run. Next time out, I'll re-mount the BY&O 11-5 to make the comparison more direct.

We believe that a little more could be gotten out of the engine, with a little additional work, if we need it.

Gordan has one from the same batch that Pete recieved. He's going to check the measurements on his in the next few days.

Edit>>>
I'd like to thank Gordan for doing the re-work. It took a fair amount of his time to take the measurements and do the work. He did a beautiful job of it as well. I also feel that I should point out that my elevation here is 4400 ASL. At lower altitudes, this might not work as well, or better, your milage may vary.

Gary, the final trim sure gives it the 'Gotcha' factor.
Canopy lines and trim are bound to influence some of our
'lurkers', as well as some who have toyed with the idea
of kitbashing 'safe' designs into that one plane they always
wanted, but was never kitted. Great fuse design, by the way.
Love that nose.

You want about a 5 1/2 inch pitch prop for the engine. Although it will take a variety of props, try a 13 inch 4 1/4 Bolly three-blade repitched to 5 1/2. Then it'll haul freight and the extra weight may not be so noticeable.

I am curious about the gear. Tell us more.

I didnt build this model from the ground up as you can see it is an ARF Nobler. It is however the newest finished airplane in the fleet. It flies well with an OS 30S. The only modifications are a Tom Morris carbon pushrod, Sig 3' nylon bellcrank, new leadouts, some added red and white trim colors and decals from local hobby shop.
