The coolest thing is to watch your friends get good.

There comes a time when you can see it. The difference becomes obvious. It's so cool.

At the moment, all my friends are good - I'm the one who might become good (if I work hard). So this won't happen to me, unless someone "less" good should happen upon the scene (highly unlikely...)

I know what you mean. I've watched John Paris, Tom Polk, Jim Morway, Jay Williams, Rich Malick, and Curt Nixon progress to a point where several have surpassed me. Not that I'm a great pilot, mediocre advanced, but having been a modeler all me life I had hoped to have moved into Expert by now. Looks like Paris and Polk at least will beat me there. All I can say though is GREAT GOING GUYS!!! We're proud of ya"!!

Thanks for the vote of confidence in all of us. However, I think we will be the ones watching you if you ever get more than 20 flights a year. Your building and finishing is leaps and bounds above what I can do. Hope to do more get-together sessions next year so that we can all improve in both flying and judging.

You guys all deserve it. As for me, well, next summer should be better for me as far as handle time goes, but you still have youth on you side, after all, I am the grandfather of 15, we'll see.

Randy,
You have the advantage of aging slower than I am. If you are gaining 1 year in your 50 or so that you already have, that is an increase of about 2%. However, when I gain a year in my 30 some, that is an increase of about 3%. So your youth thing only holds water for a little while. As for being the grandfather of 15, I sure hope you have more than 1 daughter blessing you with all those offspring.

About time we get a break in the weather. Have not flown since Cleveland. Wonder how things went in Dayton.

Ha! I love you aging analysis, but believe me a year is still a year and as I add them to my total their effect seems exponential!

Actually I've got 2 daughters and 4 sons. The youngest son is 27 and he hasn't started yet. I've got one modeler out of the brood but he's a Free Flighter and shows no interest in expanding his horizons. I'm still proud of him though, career Air Force man!!

The grandkids are great, We're excited to have my #3 son and his wife and kids coming up this week. He's the FFer and we're looking forward to making a contest at Muncie while he's here.

I know it is great to see your friends get better, but I have been blessed to see my son improve that way. To say I'm proud would be an understatement.

Yes it is cool! I have two friends from other clubs that are pushing me hard on the contest trail these days and I am just thrilled that they are flying so well. Makes me work harder. One thing I love about our event is being able to revel in your friends and competitors success and progress. Sure, flying well and getting a placque for your effort feels good, but knowing that others you admire, possibly even coached a little here and there are on your heels has its own rewards and that is not to take any credit either...just simply admiration of their drive to succeed.

I wish I had been well so I could have seen you get so good. I missed the whole thing. I came back and everyone was so much better than me. Guess I have been trying to catch up.
