Video recomendations

I have recently became a father. My building area is near the baby room and I don't want any fumes to reach her. I have decided to stop any kind of building for the first 2 months. Since I still have about 3 hours per week of "free" building time, I would like to use that time to educate myself on building techniques.

Since I can't use any dope products around the house anymore, I also need to learn proper monocoting techniques. My monocoting skills suck.

Can you recommend some video tapes on monocoting and various building techniques.

Three sources of VHS tapes on building are available:

1. Windy Urtnowski has tapes for every step of building and finishing every model he has made over the last 10 to 12 years. You can watch detailed information on building a Nobler, Cardinal, Spitfire, Seafire, Tempest, Miss Ashley, and B-25 from developing plans to cuting wood, building wings, "fusselege" (feeble attempt at a Brooklyn accent) Windy's finishing techniques are the gold standard for any PA modeler. 2. Bob Hunt has a number of tapes on aspects of model building. His lost foam wing technique is covered on two tapes. He also has a tape of Bill Werwage building an I beam wing and How to paint pilots. His Stunt video series also has good information on building including carving wing tips, Building straight wings........ Bob has a website that can give you details.

3. Al Rabe has a series of tapes on the construction of his molded Semi-scale masterpieces. Good information on use of jigs for alignment and building in strength with structure.

All these gentlemen advertise in stunt news.

About 15 years ago, I purchased a video from Top Flite that did a pretty good job teaching the basics+ of covering with plastic film. I seem to remember seeing the same video in Towers big catalog a few years ago. This would be a good investment for those who would like to explore this alternate way of finishing.

Higely's series of books, the ones with the yellow covers, are helpful on many topics. One of the books is on covering with plastic film. A good and rapid read, with some good techniques.

Film covering is a great topic for a forum. I once had the chance to watch Charlie Bauer, when he was working for Top Flite, do a demo on Monokote covering. the tricks and techniques he showed us are some of the best I've ever learned.

I'm wondering why everything is spinning around?

As to top level Monokoting techniques, Mike Cooper is probably the premier control line stunt Monokote man right now. He actually has a little known video distributed by Windy Urtnowski. Windy believes that Mike is simply amazing when it comes to monokote techniques. Give Windy a buzz to see if the video is still available.

I know Mike! He flies a monocoted SV-11! I should have drilled him on how he's done it when I was at Palisades Park contest!

A piece of advice: Don't let the girl get addicted sleeping only if you carry her in your arms and walk around the house.

Let her cry, it's good for the lungs. If she learns that there's a sucker willin' to carry her untill she falls asleep you'll be in a heap of trouble!
