Look out Salem, Here I Come!

2003 has been the year of no contests for this old guy. Now the van is packed with lots of goodies for good boys and gals, a couple of planes to show my complete incompetence, a change of clothes and a lot of high hopes.
Boy it seems so good to be going. Hope all of my friends (all 3 of them) can make it also. I will be staying at the Super 8 and will be at the field Fri morning.

You guys have a good time. The weather looks to be decent, if questionable at points. Should be fine. I won't be making the trip, I'm afraid. No plane to fly. Sigh... Been a tough year.

Besides, I have a very long "honey do" list to complete. Got to keep the womenfolk happy, after all.

I've got planes we can share, no problem. And if you are worried about breaking stuff; #1, I am not; #2, I am taking my ARF Flite Streak. You could fly it in Classic, P-40 and PA Expert, even if the rest of will eat your lunch in the latter class.

I'll bet you $5.00 I can beat you in P-40, we both fly my ARF...

Thanks for the offer. Flying Dave Royer's classic plane at Portland just about drove me to drink. I don't mind flying Pat Johnston's planes, probably because we flew together so long and he piled in a few of mine and me his. But with the way my season has gone, think I'll just get a fresh start next year.

From your comments I assume you have figured out which side, supplier or borrower of model aircraft, Scott is on. I'm not so sure...

My offer is serious, and we all know my stuff is much superior to anything flown by Dave Royer.

Come on. Plonk your narrow butt in Smiley's Piper Cub, he'll fly you both straight to Salem, we'll have a great time.

Piper Cub!!!!! Who has a Piper Cub??? I don't. But I did talk to Randy about coming down to Salem. Cannot get him to budge He might come down Sunday, if saturday weather is good and he can get some projects done.

Say I hear that P-40 will also be flown. Is that correct?

Thanks Dan. Did you happen to notice the score Randy posted with my classic plane after only a flight to see if the handle was adjusted correctly. If he can do so well with my inferior stuff with virtually no practice just imagine what he might do with your new much superior equipment.

The Chief flies pretty well, in spite of it's handicapped landing ability.

Maybe my next classic plane will have better luck. I'm in full construction mode right now. Hope to have both a PA plane and classic plane ready to go by Albany... if there's an Albany.

Saturday everyone is invited to my house for Bar-B-Que and Drinks. Sort of a test to see if my Deck will hold everyone. We won't have any "Road Kill" specials like Nils; but I will get some Safeway potatoe salad for the more adventurous.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the contest. Weather is supposed to be pretty nice by then. Yes, P-40 will be flown, in two classes, Expert and Sportsman.
I have judges recruited but am looking for a volunteer tabulator. Anybody feel like punching numbers all day? If so, send me an e-mail.

I would like that HOWEVER, I have LEO. I took a pill to get rid of the infection but it's still with me. I Will be flying classic with my all american it's 6oz lighter with the new paint job Still has the McCoy 29 on it. I think I'll bring my busty ship also. She need love'n too.

Talked to Bob Smiley today. Sounds like the Salem contest is fun, but wet and windy. Sorry I can't make it...sorta.

Got up this morning (sounds like more blues) to go, but weather there looks just awful. Shucks.

WELL ....I got up (before day light) and DROVE the 40 miles and kicked your butt. I destroyed the compition. I won the big kahuna. I even made it through the pattern...LOL

Dispite the rain and wind I had one of the best times i have ever had at ANY contest. Kudos to John Thompson and Mike Hazel for handlying all the chores.
How windy was it? Well. including my own plane, I saw at least three other planes back up after coming to a complete stop after landing!

How windy was it? The cheapy aerometers that the fellas had said about 6-11 mph. huh. Fat chance. Seattle flight service said that the winds would be 15 gusting 25 knots. Looking at the windsock throughout the day the windsock was straight out at 90 degrees horizontal. That indicates 20 knots. Sometimes it dropped which is about 15 knots.

Actually the wind died down in the afternoon after the burgers and beans and I got my best score of the day with an injured plane.

A great learning experienc in both flying and knowledge obtained from the "experts".

PS I drove to this contest because of the weird weather. Proved to be the correct decision. This is not a bold pilot here.
