Freeman wheels

Hey guys, I just completed a Super Clown (PDQ) and was looking through the coffee can for some wheels. Came up with a pair of Freeman 2" scale wheels. I don't know where the wheels came from and never heard of this brand. Any Clues?

Hi John I used to buy the Freeman wheels at the local hobby shop in Patterson, Calif., back in 1949-1951. I have a set of them on my Joker ignition ship. They were simi-puenmatic(sp) and came with bushings for differnt size wire. The hubs were simular to the Fireball wheels. Very nice looking and light. I don't know where they were mfg., which was your orginal question?? Cheers

Thanks Roy, I was just curious about them. They are nice looking wheels and I figured they were pretty old. Just the right size for the Clown.

You sure you want to use those on a "goof off" plane? They sound like something that e-bay might be interested in.

John you got me curious, so last night I looked through 17 magazines. All 1946 through 1956, MAN, FM and Air Trails. Never a trace of any advertisement for them. Lots on Trexler and Veco. Just how old is that coffee can?? I know how old you are.

Well, here we go again! I built a couple of speed planes for a guy named Anthony Orlando who lives in Virgina. These were Berkeley Kits from the late '40s. They had wheels included which were Freeman (moulded on the side) "Speed wheels" They are narrow. Look a little like the old K&B racing wheels but are rounded on the tread rather than a sharp edge. I was most surprised that I had a set of Freeman 6.00 X 2.00 (moulded in the side) in the ol' coffee can. I have no idea how old the coffee can is but I have never crashed a plane and destroyed the wheels. Lots of crashed planes equait to lots of wheels. I have some Veco and Perfect wheels and several sets of K&B racing wheels in different sizes.

Now as to Ebay, I only go on ebay if I have a lot of things that are in demand and readily avilable. Sold 8 Max.-.35-S's because I wanted to make some money. Would not put my Veco .35 or Johnsons on ebay because if someone really appreciates the history, I would rather just give them away.

Leonard, NOT a "goof off" plane! Clown weighs 14-1/2ozs without engine or tank. Thinking of a Veco .35 for power but I also have some pretty good Fox .35s. Heck, who knows I might just fly OTS next year. If I knew how, I would post a picture of the Clown. I have a digital camera which takes pictures in .jpg format but as I have told you before, I am so computer "dumb" that I can just barely respond to email. FYI: Wheels soldered on the Clown this morning.

Sorry De, Only have Johnson combats but there is an ol' boy in Tulsa that has several Johnson S's. You are yanking my chain aren't you?

Gee John, if you are wanting to give away Johnson Combats, I like all things combat, and would be willing to accept any or all you want to give away!! If you had an extra rod and wristpin for a small case johnson 35, I would accept that too!! I am so easy.
