ARF Nobler tank

I was going to substitute a 3 once UNI-FLOW tank for the supplied GMA designed pinch tank.

I mainly wanted to avoid the "end of the run run-away" with a non-uniflow tank.

OK, if you run muffler pressure...I have a tongue muffler for my OS LA 40...does the stock tank work well?...well enough?

I know 3 onces for my Brodak uniflow is not enough for a LA 40 to do the pattern, but I can't fly the pattern anyway, so at this stage I don't care...I just hate to throw away the ARF tank if it works OK.

I used a 4 ounce sullivan rst plastic tank (clunk) in my arf nobler with a Brodak 40. Set up as uniflow. The tank fits perfectly and works great. Run the overflow vent to the bulge in the tank, the uniflow to the outside center of the tank and use the clunk for the fuel pick-up. When the airframe is upside down, install the tank as far down and to the back as you can. It will fit between the engine bearers perfectly. Hold it in with a couple of sticks of 3/8" balsa or spruce hot-stuffed in. Adjust the run inverted and upright with the uniflow height by turning it in the stopper up or down from centerline of the tank. Works for me..... Some people will say there are plastic tanks that leak, and there are plastic tanks that will leak.....

Has anyone used the stock Nobler ARF tank?

How did it do?

Is it so primitive that no knowledgeable flier would use it?

If used with tongue muffler pressure are the non-uniflow problems minimized?

I see no reason that it wouldn't work, it is based upon the GMA pinch design. The only reason I didn't use it is that it is too small for the full pattern (at least for my Brodak 40). If you don't care about that, just try it. You can always replace the tank. That is what makes the plane really nice.

I do recommend filling the tank with an alcohol-acetone mixture, just to dissolve any flux which might be in the tank.

I think we sometimes get into overanalysis mode. Just do it!

If you are not concerned with the doing the pattern then use the supplied tank. I set mine up with all supplied parts to see how it was in the stock version. I used a Brodak 40 for power. It flew fine and the tank worked good. Maybe a little short on the run but long enough to have a great time.

Keep the tank and add muffler pressure. It works very well that way.

On the other hand, the Nobler flies so well, you'll be doing full pattern in no time! Then you will wish you had adequate fuel for full pattern.
