Chrome job- McCoy .29RR

Done by Bob Oge, it came home in the mail yesterday PM. Beautiful work, it is better than new now. It got new rings, chromed and fitted liner and new high speed bearings (the old McCoy ones weren't worth much even new). Not cheap, but quality work never is. It was worth it for a one-of a kind motor to put it back in the air- this one has an oddball Rossi style head on it that nobody I have showed it to has ever seen one like it before. Even GMA told me he had never seen anything like this before- he said the combustion chamber shape inside the head was much like a OS Max .35S, and it should make a killer OTS Stunt motor. He sadly never got to finish the work on it, so Bob did. He, along with Don Blackburn, are MOST HIGHLY recommended if you need old motors redone.

I think you will be MOST pleased. Don usually has faster turn-around time than Bob does, but either one will do a good job for you.
The McCoy took over a year, but the piston was gone as well as the rings. Give 'em both a call, they will talk your ear off about motors!

Luv those old RR McCoys John.

I have a highly modified .60 that was custom done for me either by Franny's Chrome Service or Bill's Miniature Engines back in the early 60s. I always intended to build a Top Cat for it but never did. This engine was chromed, ported & polished, has precision bearings and a sewer pipe venturi. I can slide my pinkie finger right through the venturi. The case & head are turned down to fit a narrow cowl and the exhaust is beatifully champered and poished. The workmansip is just superb. I've never run this engine.

You should build that model and fly the puppy- it's too neat to just sit around. GMA told me these old McCoys make killer OTS motors, just have to be set up right. He used to make phenolic rotors for them- said he hated doing it as you'd ruin 10 to get one good one, but it was the "trick" set up. It belongs in the air, not in a drawer.

Does Don Blackburn answer e-mail?

I don't know much about him except from this forum. Is he world class like Oge or Nelson or, just ok for sport/stunt engines?

I've been working with Oge so, I'm spoiled on quality but, I'd like to find someone that doesn't take months to get something done.

Don is first class. He has been around almost as long as glass has. He said he first met GMA at the '57 NATs (I think he said he was flying Speed). He is also one of the sparkplugs of MECA. He finished the Drone Diesel for me that George had started and never got to complete. He's also done a Fox .59, Fox .29 and.25, a Holland Hornet .049, McCoy .29RR, and a couple others for me- all are like new or better. I wouldn't hesitate to call him. I THINK he has e-mail, but I don't have his address at the moment.

No, he was in "Silent Running".
Dan O'Bannon (who co-authored the script for "Alien") played Pinback. I forget at the moment who the other guys were (Talby, Boiler, Doolittle, and of course the dead Commander Powell).
