One or Two Day Events

The folks in New Jersey don't seem to hold two day events....we just seem to pile all of the action into a single day.

The question that I have is: do thos eof you that see two day events think that they're a good idea? Or would you rather spend only one day at a contest?

Hard to fly Classic, OTS, and Pampa in one day. Those Tree Town guys do a one day meet but no OTS or Classic. Lots of other stuff though. I myself like the 2 day meets

It really depends on how many circles your site will allow, how far away your customers come from, and how much of a good thing your "worker bees" are willing to put up with. Steve

I'm generally in favor of 2-day meets if more than one stunt event is flown. If too much is crammed in something will get shorted.

I like the multiple day events as it provides more opportunity to fly different events. If the contest is set up so that only one type of stunt event is flown, the single day format is best. If the attendance is so high that you can't get through both rounds in a single day, I would be tempted to not attend. A lot of down time makes the day go by real slow. Would not want to stretch it to two days like that. FWIW.

Depends on how many contests you put on and a bunch of other things. We do a two day contest with the fun stuff on Saturday and the serious stuff on Sunday, everybody seems to like it. We have contestants that drive a considerable distance and a two day contest makes it worth the drive.

Even if it is just the PAMPA classes a two day contest is great. Texarkana Flys PAMPA classes over two days. Two official flights each day in your class, then average the best flight from each day. Great contest. Come to think of it most contests here in the midsouthwest are two day contests.

I've been to a couple of the Texarcana contests, but probably won't go to another because I don't like the two days for a single event format. Everything else about the contest is great.

Locally, two-day events are pretty much mandatory. It's just not possible to get all the events in with the number of participants we normally get. On one-day contests, I have seen it where we didn't get the first round of Expert started until 3:00 in the afternoon. Never mind a second round.

Most of the local contests have 3 circles. Two get used for officials, and the other one for practice. Typically, it's 15 in OTS on Saturday, and maybe 20 in Classic. That's about 3 and a half hours per round of Classic with a few attempts and overruns thrown in. 7 hours total, an hour for lunch, and the day is gone. Its similar on Sunday.

Day 1: Classic, OTS
Day 2: PAMPA classes

The nice thing about 2 day event is to be able to fly in two contests. That's what I did at Northampton and LOVED it!

I agree about the worker bees. Without them the Queen (or King in your case) won't make much honey.

One thing that Two Day Events allows, is a Saturday night feed. It can be at a member's house, at a restaurant, or burgers, dogs or pizza on the field. What it does, I think, is to get the Beginners elbow to elbow with the Experts, and makes them feel comfortable with the Experts. It will then make it easier to "ask the Expert" in the future. This has to be a huge benefit to the Beginners and help to grow our sport. The trick is to get everybody into a single group, vs. into small cliques, or sitting on the tailgate alone. I'm not sure how to do that, but suspect that Circle Mouse Mary would be able to arrange that. Just order the troops to bring their chairs to a designated area if they want food? I'm there! Steve

Mereille's doing great: turning one month old in 2 days. She already practicing making faces. Once in a while she smiles for a brief moment and I melt!

Ahyhow, back to the contests. Ion, what is an average contest schedule down on your side of the equator?

We seem to have all "two day" events around here. We just can't get it all in in one day.

Only down side is all the hotel room stays!
AND the eating too much *required* fish house dinners.
