People pull all kind of tricks on eBay. It's easy to bid on your own auction from another computer. The thing to do is to decide in advance how much you want to pay for something. If it goes beyond your price you have to let it go.

I think it is somebody who doesn't know what he is bidding on. You notice he says it "comes with the hard to get fuel tank and wheels." "Expertly built and expertly covered...comes in a knocked down conditon for easy shipping..." Yup, the write up is real good if you don't know what you are bidding on.

Some people get into a feeding (or bidding) frenzy on eBay. An example from my own experience: I was bidding on directions to make a sniper's ghillie suit. (Why? Temprorary instability caused by sunspots or phase of the moon, is all I can come up with.) Two pilgrims got into it, and the final bid was $18+ $1.25 for shipping. I got mine (identical) for $2.00 + $1.25 shipping. The product? Two reasonably clear copied pages, one on two sides! I hope the high bidder enjoyed his purchase. Me? I read through the instructions, and decided to buy a c/l engine.

I have seen the same thing happen several times on ebay. My first Sig Chipmunk was powered by a Como 40 and it flew great with fantastic engine runs. After several years I wore out the engine running R/C fuel but I always thought if I could find a Como 40 that was in good shape and the price was right I would buy it. Well I have seen several Como's on ebay and the price always goes way over what I am willing to spend for a engine that hasnt been produced in years and is pretty beefy for a stunt engine anyway. The last one I saw went higher than the price of a brand new Brodak 40. I think some of those people just dont know what they are buying and what the actual value of the item is.

You mean like 200 dollar original Thimble drone engines with authentic brass backplates? Like the ones that came on everything and are easily picked up for 50 cents at a garage sail or swap meet. That kind of overbidding?

Oh for the lack of a conscience, I'd have a heck of a fortune instead of a box o stuff.
