Huntersville , NC Contest

Got back home from the meet, and it was great! Pretty tired though.
Fliers from all over were there including our own Capt. Curt Nixon all the way from Mich.! Was great to meet him. Big Art, Allen Brickhaus, and Jim Van Loo came. I think about everyone had a real good time, especially us Advanced guys!
I thought it was really special when Robbie Gruber won Expert with Curtis Comer finishing second. Probably a 50+ years spread in their ages. Very tight scores in that class. 1/2 point separating several fliers from the next higher place.

Thanks to all the people responsible for the meet and especially the judges, they were *really* worked!

There were 3 kids, all in different classes (on Sunday). In each class that had a kid registered, they took home hardware! Kinda cool.

Meeting Jim Van Loo was neat. I have only ever flown 4 different models in contests, still own three of them. And now two of those 3 are sporting their designers signatures.

Great contest, awesome facilities, had a super time as well. Cannot thank the Carolina group enough!

Meeting Van Loo was awesome. I got him to sign a set of the Umland plans for the original Van Loo Chipmunk. There were a couple of Chipmunk models there that Van Loo got to examine.

Sunday's weather was near perfect, very little wind and not a cloud in the sky.

The AJ 404 glider competition was pretty cool, too. Whoever brought back the line of AJ models has done a first class job. Both the glider and the rubber powered job are way better than any guillows offering. I heard Bad Andy won by launching his glider later than the others and also by bribing the timers.

I think Charlotte is one of my all time favorite events-what a great site, and the MCLS group runs a great event. Can't wait until next June.

Another age spread was myself to young Courtney (11 yrs old) There is a 44yr spread !

He was flying the heck out of that Junar! Another Robbie or Kevin in the works I think!

Curt, It was great to meet you finally. We did have a great contest, but it would be nothing without you and everyone else that showed up from all over. And I do mean all over.

Thanks to all of you for all the kind words. I'm very fortunate to be associated with such a great group of people as the MCLS. Everyone just seems to know what needs doing and does it. I'm still on cloud 9 after meeting "Big" Art and Jim Van Loo. And all the regulars like Charlie Reeves, Alan Brickhaus, Curtis Comer, Don and Rob Gruber, John Simpson, Ken Stevens, Tom Luper, Dave Hemstrought, etc. etc. etc. I shouldn't started making a list. Just let me say thanks to all of you for attending.
