Flying Sites

Got to playing around with the computer looking up flyng sites photgraphed from above. Couldn't find one of our site taken after we moved in. We do have a couple of private pilots in our group, so maybe we can get some shots from a plane one of these days. Hopefuly on a day when there is a lot of activity going on. The Tucson shot is supposed to be in Feb 1999. I think you're stuck with the logos across the images unless you fork over some bucks for a fancy copy.

The L Pad at Muncie.

Here's the KC Field and the Circle in Gage Park, Topeka,KS.
Notice the little white dot that is the center of the grass circle to the south of the main circle in Topeka AND the total lack of any established circle in KC, Oh well.

Well, it wouldn't zoom in as far as it did with some of the other sites, but here's the view of or site here in San Diego.

You can just make out the circle and the carpeted runway and pit area.

Here's the best image they had of Wichita's site at Plainview Park and a little better shot of the Dallas site showing the grass circles and the famed "turbulator" ridge along the railroad tracks. So far the Tucson site is the only one that had activity on it when the picture was taken. Might have to go back to that one and see if it will zoom in enough to see some modelers and planes.

Here is one of my future flying site We closed on the property yesterday but I have to give the seller 45 days to get all the junk off the property.

Flying Dutchmen, Reading, PA & Brett Smith Memorial C/L Site, Big Bear Creek State Park, Polk City, Iowa

Here's the site of our WOLF club - Western Oregon Line Flyers - on July 15, 2000. There are cars parked around the clubhouse just above the paved circle. There's a blue canopy up, and a few planes can be seen in the grass pit area between the blacktop and grass circle. My guess it was a club poker-hand fun fly. -Jerry

I pulled up the Tucson field again at Globexplorer and was able to zoom in enough to see people in the pits on the grass and paved circles but they were pretty much just colored blobs. Not quite as sharp as the image of your field. Still fairly amazing if these pics were all taken by satellite. Some might have been taken from a plane. It's interesting to go to a aerial photo of an area you've never visited and are completely unfamiliar with and trying to spot something that looks like a model airplane field.

Yes we still fly there. The site is Fentress Aux Landing Field in Chesapeake, VA (the 1988 NATS site).
We sport fly off of the grass next to the swimming pool.

The backyard flying site is the one that we used all of this year. Got visited by the local authorities a couple of times (first time in 6 years of flying) so we were prompted to clean up another site. Will continue to fly here, but cut down the frequency. The second site in in Flint, MI. A place called Broome Park. Not too bad and there is talk that they may resurface for us next year. Guess time will tell

Central California largest RC and CL site. It host many event including the Ted Goyet Stunt Contest and Meet and Meat contest.

O. K. Another source for photos, although after visiting the site it didn't look much different from Globexplorer. What's the area north of the circles? Looks like a partially filled pond. Hopefully it's not a sewage lagoon! Our old site was fairly close to a sewage treatment plant and when the wind came from that direction it was pretty bad.

I believe it call Willow sleugh. Its neat the Sacramento delta, but I don't think this water way connect to it. The are was primarily farm land.

Yes, the R/C people do use it for their annual Float event.

Here is an old site used by the Concord Model Engineers club in Concord CA.

I wonder what causes the odd spotty pattern in the grass? Sprinkler heads perhaps? Looks like this would have to be a mandatory muffler use site with all of the nearby housing.

Field is not in good condition. Has problem with tree on the left. I was at their annaul picnic a few year ago and one flyer did clip his wing off. You can still see part of the old asphat runway on the second circle, but its in very bad condition.
Concord Eng did have plan to improve the field, but could not seem to bet city approval and the club is mostly Flies RC electric.

I want to see those Boeing parking lots where Howard flies.

And Mile Square, which is now gone as far as flying models is concerned (^%^&$%^&^ golf courses..).

We mowed some tall grass down on a Friday, only to find it 'taped-off' on Saturday morning: 'Police line. Do not cross'. Turned out the local Sheriff suspected they were "Crop Circles".

Buder Park, Valley Park. Missouri...Looks like a very nice site!

In the Buder Park photo, the far left circle is a speed cage fully fenced in, then you can see the carrier deck, then two paved circles. In the lower part of the photo is enough area for three combat circles over the grass. Great area.
