ST 51 Muffler Question

I've sent a question to Len about this but thought I would see if anyone else had this issue.
I have a ST 51 C/L motor that was reworked by Tom Lay. I recently bought a Big Art tube muffler for it from Len, but when I went to bolt it on noticed that the back of the muffler lugs are not bored out. So there is no way to attach the muffler unless, perhaps I drill out the back of the lugs. I am VERY reluctant to drill on the motor for fear of ruining it. I notice that on the new Chinese ST 51's avail at Tower that the lugs go through. So when did ST change the lugs? Any suggestions for Tube mufflers?

I used one of Art's tube mufflers on a Tom Lay prepared ST .51 and it worked quite well. Seems like I remember using bolts off a .40 FP, but I can't guarantee that. Aren't the holes in the engine case factory threaded? I think you just need the right length/thread bolt..

Something wrong here. My T&L S.T. 51 has the muffler mounting holes drilled through at 0.140". The muffler boss is long, at 1.08", so I had to find some 4-40 bolts 1 1/2" long.

Just for curiosity, what does the replacement tube muffler weigh? The stock S.T. muffler is a joke! It weighs almost as much as the motor! I couldn't find a tube muffler, so I bought a tongue muffler from Windy. I still would rather use a tube muffler if it isn't too heavy.

Big Art's tube muffler is much lighter, even a bit than the mufflers that come with OS FPs and LAs.

The stock ST muffler is huge and weighs a ton, completely out of the question for a stunt ship.

I drilled them out. Stuff paper towels or tissues in the exhaust stack tightly to catch any chips that might want to find their way in there. Venturi, also. Just go slow and be careful. The threads are in the muffler, so all you need is for the bolts to pass through.
