Mine built to a width of between 22 and 23 inches. Works good, just make sure you keep them at the proper angle toward the LE. Over time, mine will slowly bend backward, making noseovers easier in grass. Watch that issue, and everything is fine. Only problem, mine is missing the outboard wing starting just outside the landing gear. See the Baton Rouge contest thread. Wing is VERY strong from the LG inward. Sheared of cleanly at that point (or should I say, exploded cleanly!). It is definitely fixable.
One, very minor issue that seems to be addressed with the wide track, is the fact that during takeoffs and landings, unless you are crouching down, the outboard wheel is the last to leave, and the first to touch down.
Takeoffs aren't affected too much by this fact, but I believe you can get set up for a minor bounce with the outboard wheel hitting first on landing. The wide track seems to smooth this tendency out, at least for me. The outboard wheel being closer to the tip makes the plane settle out sooner, and I believe smoother, than closer set wheels such fuse mounted styles.
It's a minor point, and not a big thing, but I need all the help I can get.
SteveI notice that the Legacy kit does not show any shear webs between the spars! Amazing! Just a bit of 1/16" sheeting completes the D-tube and increases wing strength a lot.
I have watched many "modern" stunters in action, and I am surprised how much the wings bend on a pull-out..

Like you said, a liitle bit of wood adds a ton of strength, and in my opinion helps in building a straight wing.
