For you Spitfire fans

Never turn your back on:1. A fire you just put out. 2. A really mad wife. 3. Low flying aircraft. Wish I could have been there.

Some years ago, at a Moffett Naval Air Station air show, a P-51 apparently stalled coming out of a low loop. It was mushing and wings wiggling. Fortunately, the plane recovered within inches of a prop strike on the runway. Certainly is a credit to North American that this plane could remain flying under such a condition..I didn't realize how close the P-51 came to disaster until it was all over.

The reporter is a gent called Alain DeCadinet and he enjoyed it more than anyone else, most likely!

Alan DeC. was a F1 and Sports Car Race Driver of some note, in addition to being a nut about old aircraft. He has done some very good documentaries about vintage Ferraris etc. on PBS, blasting around a narrow road course without helmet or rollbar. You'd think he'd have better nerves that that! I have had this saved to my computer for awhile now, with a shortcut on my desktop. Also the wav of a Merlin powered P-51 making a low pass. Kinda fun to just crank the sound up and punch the button for giggles. How do I hook this up to the stereo amplifier? Steve

PS: The Spitfire was climbing when this frame was taken! When it could first be clearly seen, it was MUCH lower.....

As if you didn't know!! However, in case the above is not a put on, just get a "stereo mini plug to two RCA female jack" adaptor from your local stereo shop. Plug the mini plug into the line out jack on the computer sound card. Plug two RCA patch cords into the jacks and run the cords to the amplifier. Plug the cords into any line, not phono input on your amp and you're home free after you set your input selector to the input you plugged the cords into. Try it, you'll like it!!

Indeed, yes.... until you see it climb ( ! ) to clear Alain you cannot see it above the horizon at all.... perhaps they hired him to mow the grass at the same time........

I appreciate Alain's work all the more now. He is also one of the few exceptions of a good driver with reverence for those who came before.

Alan is a reporter on the Speed Channel. He knows his classic and vintage cars. He also narrates the Barrett-Jackson car auction on this channel each year.

Ray Hanna is the Spitfire pilot and getting pretty low over the uneven ground. I wonder how he had the film crew in sight?
