Anybody know or heard of the whereabouts of Mike Guthomson? Mike is/was from San Antonio, traveled about quite a bit but managed to fly lots of Combat in Texas and Oklahoma in mid 1970s.

He answered to the nickname "Gus" in San Antonio, and owned a place in Marion (on the near side of Seguin from the city), where he was rebuilding a fleet of MG-B Coupes (I think he had three, if not four, but a couple were just for parts). He got divorced, and didn't argue about giving that semi-rural home to his Ex.
George Aldrich would hear from Mike once in awhile the last few years, and had his address and phone number. He even wrote it down for me a couple of years ago, but when I didn't manage to make contact right away, I ended up losing the slip of paper!
Wherever he is, I think that George had told me that he is now flying some RC and little else. And I think your spelling of his last name was good enough.

Thanks Kiwi for the update. Mike used to travel around these parts-as I recall he did some type work in the aviation industry and spent quite a bit of time here and was a regular at our contests. Did quite well-good combat pilot. His main claim to fame, however was getting mugged at the Oklahoma City Holiday Inn. He had a knock on the door one afternoon, answered it to be greeted by a shotgun in his face. The mugger had him lie down in tub while he stole his goodies. Apparently the mugger was not a combat flier as he did not steal Mike's Super Tigres, only his money etc. Anyway, he did spend some time with us and was hoping to track him down to determine his interests in flying again. With George's passing it appears it may be difficult but I'll try telephone info in SA area for possible leads.
With help from Kiiski and Kiwi, Mike has been located. Is still in San Antonio area but unfortunately has been flying RC for some 10 years or so. Dosen't sound like he is having much fun with RC so may return to the fold. Mike was quite discouraged that Texas control line contests have apparently de-emphasized combat(Houston being the exception)and went into RC-pretty sad.
