I flew my ARF Nobler today... and it was sort of discouraging in a way because it made me realize how far I have to go as a builder.

I'm sure I've never built a plane (kit or scratch) that flew that well first time out. Dead straight flyer, nice gentle squares, no funny bobbles at the bottom of the hourglass, no bad habits that I could detect, given my skill level.

I built it stock except for replacing the leadouts, power is a Magnum .36XL with no added tail or nose weight, 11/5 prop. The stock metal tank gives enough fuel for the full pattern plus 10+ laps (2-cycle all the way, with somewhat fast lap times). Weight is right around 40oz.

The only problem I had when putting it together (ha ha, I almost said "building" there) was the motor mounts. One of them split apart when I drilled it (the grain was sort of funky). With a slighty bigger stock tank (I like metal ones), better motor mount wood and proper leadouts this would be an outstanding package. As it is this will be a great practice plane.

Looks like you did a Great job re-shrinking the 'cote. The planes I spend the least time on tend to fly the best right off the board. Maybe it's that my expectations are lowest, I dunno. I'm often proud of a plane until I see a much, much better one. I'm covering a Legacy this weekend and I just can't ever get them to look as good as I want. Oh well, I still love building them. At least you can do the pattern. I'm still mesmerized when they just fly. I usually get Bob Reeves, CatDaddy or someone else to fly them tough for tweaking.

Actually I did very little reshrinking. The wings were pretty much as you see them right out of the box. Just a few spots on the flaps and on the elevators and stab, and maybe two or three wrinkles on the fuselage sides. A much better job than I could do (no surprise there).
