Quick shots of a plans-built Kestrel I've put together. Built up flaps, ST.46 power. Came out really light so far. Only thing I wish I had done different was I didn't use a propshaft extension, so the nose has a littler bulkier look than I would like. The bigglest issue now is that I let it sit for a couple weeks, and some spiders built a nest over it and pooped on it, leaving some small concrete hard spot on it I need to deal with. Oh well, it's always someting new with each model. Finish will be dope, so I'm hoping to get some nice days so I can spray.

Nice, love the built up flying surfaces. Are you sure there is enough area to allow proper cooling air flow?
Should be OK. It's got the exit vents under the tank. I've used that method before and it was fine. I may cut two holes in the cowl behind the cylinder head too. My plan is to build a composite cowl this winter too, so that cowling will probably go away soon anyway. My P51 actually has a smaller vents and works fine.
The built up surfaces are fun. Add a few more days work but they are lighter and stiffer than solid, and when you look at the fractional percentage of man hours they add to the ship, it's well worth it. Plus, they look cool, and that's what really matters, right?
This was a diversionary project to get learn the ins and outs of flying the Supertigre .46's. Next project is just getting underway, it's a FW190D built for the ST .46 as well (Woohoo! gear doors and no @#$! fairings). Hope to have pics as soon as it starts to look like something.
