Stalker 51 RE

Got my Stalker 51 RE today. Sure is a beauty! It is the biggest motor I have so far. Will be putting it on a Magnum when Johnny gets finished with the wings and I build the fuse. Hope it will last me a long time with many hours of First place flying.
Everything in included. Also hope to build as good and light as Walter is building his. The head screw wrench, 7 head screws, several head shims, 12 O rings, 4 venturis, What looks to be a half a washer, muffler, and needle valve. Not bad for $170 plus $10 shipping.

Is it my imagination, or is that muffler a carbon tube?

It is blue, but not sure what carbon blue is. Super light too. Will be a first for me with a rear exhaust engine. Jimmy Morway swears by them since there is very little cleaning to do when you are finish flying.

Stalker has had carbon mufflers available for about a year or so. They are really inexpensive, too.

Can someone tell us a little more about the motor, such as how does the power compare to a ST .51? I understand that these are designed for no nitro, so what mods are needed to run with a nitro fuel?

The directions say you can run as much Nitro as you want but to add head shims in the higher range.

hi there. Keith Varley here. the half washer is a back plate wrench. I ahve run STlker 61"s fo three years now and am completely happy in all way. The best thing to read about Stalker 51's is Derek Pickard article in Stunt News Nov-Dec 96. Complete set of important stuff. And I have to say, Keith's Stalker has the absolute, hands down, coolest sounding run I've ever heard. Sounds like a perfect running Fox 35...on steroids.

I really like mine, even with the piston problem I had this fall. I sent it to Chulan and he replaced it. I haven't reassembled it yet but will soon ( I still have John's .51) It pulls the Gladiator like a freight train and always runs consistantly if the fuel is right. The only thing I noticed is that it didn't run well until I started using a castor/synthetic blend, we'll see what it does with the new piston/liner. It's really happy with 1 additional shim and 5% nitro.

Sure hope you share with me what makes my engine run. Sounds like it runs much like yours did. Will be nice not having to start at zero when I start running it next year.

Sorry I missed this before. What I'm running is stock Powermaster 5% Nitro, castor/synth fuel, I'm not sure of the proportions. Problem is I've been told they nolonger are making this blend. Its been suggested that I try Sig of the same nitro content, its supposed to be very similar.

Your photos are outstanding. Not to rap on other peoples picture post's, but some of the photos are barely visible. I know this is not about engines, but posting really good picts adds immeasurably to a contributors thread. Thanks again.

Thanks. I do enjoy posting pictures here as the reactions are great. The only problem I have is reducing the photos size. I do have a program, but it is tough cuz I am not getting the info I need at the time I reduce. Infanview lets you reduce the pictures by % but it will not tell you the pixel size until after you save it. So if it is not enough you got to keep reducing and saving till you hit the right number. Len's way is best. Don't take big pictures in the first place.

IS it just me, or can you get very close to the final size (byte) estimate by using a ratio of the original vs the area reduction.

Alot of the picture size changes can be resized by the physical dimension of the final image. If that area is half of the original, then the byte size is approximately half as well.

After I reduce the dimension to a typical 3x5 size, I need to use very light jpeg compression to get under the size limit. Alot of them can go without additional compression.
