Hi All,
One of you *Fox Experts* can answer this one.
One of my flying buddies and I both have Fox 35 Stunts (box stock) which are very shiney case and chrome plated heads. A piece of chrome has chipped off the head of mine. He said he bought his in the PX in 1957. I got mine at a swap meet. These are the only "shiney case, chromed head" ones I have seen.
??
TIA

Bill?

You're back?

What happened with you saying it was time to leave?

Inquiring minds (who only know to send a Fox .35 to Larry Foster) want to know...

Some of the '70s version Stunts were pretty shiny, case and head wise, but this was in the early muffler era.

Sometimes, the "gold" Fox Stunts have their plating gradually wear away, giving the result of a really shiny, essentially "silvery" finish. But your buddy would have remembered that his was gold in the first place.

Currell,
As this one is a non muffler engine and the head was originally chrome plated, not polished, I am very curious as to the *series*. With two of them identical and no signs of them ever having been apart (the one still owned by the original owner has never been apart for sure), it has my curiosity up.
Thanks,
Bill

All of the "gold" Fox 35 Stunts I have seen (only 4) have been more "silvery" than "gold". And the 1957 date also makes me think "gold Fox". But the heads of the gold Fox shouldn't look any different than the crankcase!? It's a puzzle! Can you post of picture of these two engines?

I'll try to get the son's digital cam and take a *comparison* pic of it and a *regular* Fox.

I HAD one of these critters. My brother ordered it, with a Nobler kit many years ago, I think from American Hobby Center. He started the kit and quit, lost some of it in a move, so he threw it away, and gave me the engine. I traded the engine away without even starting it, I forget what for now.

But mine did not have a chrome plated head as I recall, it was merely finished smooth like the case.

Naturally, I didn't realize it might be valuable or something!

The shiney cases were acid washed, the matt cases were tumbled.

slightly changing the thread here but could someone tell me what using a Hemi kit will do for a Fox 35 and also is there any advantage in using an ABC liner/piston assembly as far as using the engine for stunt forgive my lack of knowledge folks.

The Hemi-Head kit from Fox mfg will give a modist boost in the "hard Four" cycle setting and the stuffer backplate will increase the life of the rod and crankshaft. The L & J hemi head will make the old Fox perform better on profile mounted arrangmentes. The California Blue magic head Gives a modist boost in power as well as smoothing the run in profile mounted setups. In mine, I use the Fox kit and modify the head to my original specifications and realize a considerable boost in power as well as less vibration and longer life.

Installing an ABC P&L in a Fox will reduce the vibration considerably
but, it's pretty expensive.

Don't know the year, but I picked one up for $5 used in the 80's and never had a better FoxBerg race engine. Placed 1st several times and 2nd only when I flew against Marvin aka BigIron. Finally wore out the crank and replaced with new only to discover that bushing was worn so badly that even with new crank, it leaked badly out the front and never ran well again. I still have it and would like to rehibilitate it for stunt someday. I'm convinced that the wear in addition to running at peak, was also the lack of lube in fuels of the time. Most were 10% with only 20% lube. Castor was predominate lube, but higher levels would have made the racing motors last longer.

I agree with Don on the need for more oil in Foxberg racing. I argued for 25% and got shot down EVERY time. It seems that those that want less have EXCESS engines or money to blow. For practice, I installed a stuffer plate and that immensely improved the life of my engines, but for official races, that meant I had to switch back to a stock plate. Then Switch back again after the race. Big head ache for time after time.
