Bambi lives!

I did get my .009 size diesel running this weekend. Not easily, nor for long, but run it did. Very briefly with a 6x3, just enough power to keep itself firing, and much longer with the C*x 4 x 2.5 black plastic prop. I started fiddling with the settings, and managed to kill it after about a minute of running, but it is a start. I think I'll cut the prop down to about 3.5" diameter, or perhaps make up a single blade version at full diameter.

My lapping of the crankshaft seems to have "worked a treat" as the manufacturer would likely say. The engine pops back and forth nicely when the prop is flipped.

Fuel level turns out to be critical. The tank top needs to be just level with the spraybar.

I did discover a trick. I started using the spray ether starter as a port prime. That certainly gets the fire lit in a hurry, and since you have standard fuel coming in immediately, the lack of oil is not a problem.

I am feeling hopeful that the engine might actually be useable for flying! I do have that stack of replica Speedee-bilts

What is the fuel you used. In the earlier thread on the Bammbi there was discussion of using very high ether in engines of this size.

I haven't had a chance to get special fuel yet, so it was stock Red Max, whatever that mix is. The starter spray got it cooking nicely as prime.

I remember reading years ago about using just oil and ether as a fuel. Seemed to work for that person.
I have not tried it...don't have a Bambi .009...
