Cigar smoker?

Got any empty aluminium cigar tubes going spare?

I'd like to experiment turning them into mufflers.

Hi Tony. Back in Idaho in the early 70's I tried a cigar tube muffler. It worked as to being quiet, didn't kill the power noticeably, but the darn thing is so thin it tended to dissolve!! It was hard to keep on the engine as it wore so bad from vibration. If I were to do it again, I'd use JB Weld on the outlet pipe where it enters the tube.. And is it ever light, about 6 grams. Have fun.

Most Cigar tubes are to thin to make a muffler that will last. Try the tube from a commercial grade magic marker. You will have to look for a metal one, most of them are plastic now. I got a couple from Home Depot for a buck each. I plan to use them for the outlet tube on a mousse can muffler I'm building.

I was going to suggest mousse cans myself..

Isn't a Mouse can similar to a Rat's A**? And some one is asking to be given one. Sounds like an oxymoron to me!

But I digress! I have several cigar tubes scrounged from a friend's wedding party (he kept the cigars, thank goodness!)

Iskandar at least got you pointed in the right direction: Mousse cans.

For inspiration, look up most any construction article dealing with RC "Fun Fly" models; use of mousse can mufflers is almost universal in this event.

There is potential here--unlike the case with cigar tubes--to develop quite effective and reliable mufflers which are also really light. And then to turn it all into an article for Stunt News.
