New Plane

Just thought I would put up some pictures of the new plane.

It is a GeoXL with the p47/thunderbolt wing in it.
PA61 with pipe.
Really really really trying to get it in around 55oz.

1) Fuse with one of the top block molds.
2) Fuse with top block mold again from another angle
3) Fuse with bottom block and the geo wing. also pica glueit that we have been using a really like, dries fast and is strong
4) Geo wing and molded stab, the wing is ready for center sheeting and cap strips, as it sits right there with bellcrank, landing gear blocks, leading edge, just no tips, center, and cap strips it is 6.5oz.

I am really getting excited, i put the wood on the mold tonite for the top block!

Saw this plane fly on video where Bill is at the Nats. Smooth flyer.

After you put all those lightening holes in the fuselage, watch when you get done. You'll need tail weight.

I hope not.

My last plane seemed to be dreadfully tail heavy, also I was just trying to copy Billy's as close as I could, that is what the plans showed, we will see!

Your new PA ship is comming along nicely.
It looks like you are going to be a serious threat in '04. I better make some saw dust so I don't fall to far behind.
Is your foam for your mold Dow "Scoreboard" 1"?

How goes it?

I am excited about next year for sure, it will be nice to have a bigger plane finished.

The foam for that blue thing is actually house insualtion it is like 1/4 or 1/2 thick and i laminated them. Not the best way to do it I know now but when I did it I was just trying to figure it out. Bob Hunt has a tape with he and Billy doing some molds and it is a GREAT tape for molding.

Hey Aaron, where did you get those plans?

it was published in Model Aviation (AMA mag) in like April of '01.
The only thing I have changed is the wing Billy told me to build the geoxl with the p47/"geobolt" wing.

It is MUCH further along now and I will prob put up some more pictures today.

Is your pushrod at right angles to your horns when the elev. and flaps are in neutral?Or should I say "are they gonna be?
Are you using the carb. fiber rods with JB,d threaded ends?
I am curious

NOTE! Workshop is a TOTAL wreck but we get a lot done there.

these are from 11/28/03 so the fuse is covered, the pilot/cockpit is in, the canopy is on and the landing gear are made...

getting excited, it is coming along, it is actually almost totally covered now!

Looking at around 57 oz for finished weight, maybe an ounce or two less.

Plastic or metal tank Aaron?

<stuck at work instead of building>

Looks like i will start with a plastic tank but it can hold up to a 6.5ounce metal tank if needed.

I relieved the motor mounts on this one which allows easier use of the plastic tank, that was one of the mistakes i made on the geostar was no relieved motor mounts, that really messed up my upright/inverted engine run...

The stab looks quite thick. Is that stock, or just an optical illusion?

It's 3/4 inch thick. Straight off the original Geo XL plans.
Sheeted, however. (1/2" core, geo ribs) I think the pics and CF make it look bigger.
