Three rascals

This was my first experience with CL. Probably dates around 1952. My brother is holding "our" Rascal 27, powered by a Royal Spitfire .065.

Classic "figure 9" on the first attempt, not, as I recall, reparable.

Man Larry, what great memories. My brother built one and (under)powered it with a K&B Infant .02. On calm evenings we'd (Art, Dad and myself) fly it in the back yard, about 1/2 acre cleared. The little Infant would fly it around in circles in ever slightly increasing altitude never getting more then phone pole high in a whole tank. It was so consistant I've always wanted to replicate it. I have the Infant but not the Rascal. Remember the bambo struts?

We built the CG counterpart (actually later after Carl left Top Flight and started his on company) Ranger 30 powered with a Pee Wee .02 and had almost as much fun, the Infant would have been more relaxed though.

I have recently seen a couple of these come up on e-Bay, but they were too much for my casual desire to have one. I would love a full set of plans and part outlines if such were available. I have a runnable Royal Spitfire, and it would be fun to build one and make it work this time! Great Christmas present for my brother sometime.

Had you been using a 4 stroke, you would not have been covering your ears. Also, this picture confirms what I have been trying to prove on this forum for some time; and that is, your brother was better looking!

I recently re-read a couple of old articles that should bring back memories. One was the article you did on modifying the Cox BF-109 for better stunting, and the other was by Bob Hunt the year you had some stunt experts (plus others) try out some BF-109's at the Nats.
I noticed that Bob referred to you as "the Lone Renger". Is that a handle someone tagged you with back then or did it stick with you?

I had that handle for many years until my current (last 23 years) wife objected to it that I wasn't "Lone" anymore. I most fervently agree with her! See the photo:
