Uber Skiver. Can I find blades?

Bought an Uber Skiver 'Surgical Set' in '83, through Model Builder. Is there a source for those blades? Love 'em! Thanks!

A Google search found one reference to Uber Skiver on an indoor flying model site, but the rest didn't relate. You might try contacting Bill Northrop at his plans service. He's advertised in Flying Models, lately, P.12 of the Dec. 03 issue. Ph: (702) 896-2162, 10am-4pm M-F. You might also check with T&A Hobby in Burbank, or maybe some Swedish relatives. Steve

Hmm.. weren't Uber Skiver knives sold through Model Builder magazine? That's what I seem to remember...

Anyone here use #11 scalpel blades instead of X-Acto? ^_-

(I use nothing but the break-off blade craft knives, but I don't build wood planes any more..)

I use them all the time. Maybe I could sharpen the X-acto that sharp but why. They never seemed to hold an edge for me. Single edge razor blades work well for some things and the double edge ones go in the planer.

Don't know where you live but at the AMA show last year in Pasadena, CA there was a vendor selling a s--- load of them, all brand new handles and blades. The show is January, I am going and will look for you at that time if you can stand the suspence of waiting till then???? Bill

Stanton Hobby shop in Chicago stocked them. www.Stantonhobby.com or there email is [email protected] . Those are my favorite blades as they are three times as sharp as the rest.

Actually, the joke was that a search for "uber skiver" comes up with umpteen hits, which turn out to be in Finnish. About laughed my head off.

Guys, I just spoke with Anita Northrup. Her Brother-in law was the mfr. of Uber Skiver, but has passed away. Her entire stock has been depleted, but she is going to Laos in 2004, and hopes to resume manufacture of the product line. She is hopeful for availability by 10/04.
Bill still has every plan from Model Builder. $10.00 minimum order.

I must admit that I found him prickly enough that I decided to take my business elsewhere. Seems a businessman would welcome communication is a manner as unobtrusive as email, but I suppose not. Glad the information was useful and that you were able to get through.

Good news on the reappearance of the Uber Skiver line possibly in 2004. Perhaps Anita will be the spokesperson. I would like to have another selection of Uber Skiver blades - mine were lost in a move years ago. One always hopes to do business with those who appreciate it.
