I don't have one, but I've seena few of them now. The vibration is much improved, the fuel sensitivity and break-in issues are mostly gone. It doesn't cure the burp.

I believe that Brodak offers an abc/Fox 35 at a reasonable sum?
The "stuffer" backplate is a good thing.

#5 sourceAm I to understand the oil content can come down a notch with the ABC kit? ABC doesn't seem like it would lend itself to the 4-2-4 although the K&B Stunt 40 w/ABC is reportedly a good 4-2-4 runner out of the box.
Rumor is TCI is considering relocating to Las Vegas. Supposedly he has a 6,000 sq. ft. facility lined up for manufacturing. His South Dakota deal fell through when he lost his MN home to a fire.

There's nothing about ABC cylinder types that would have any effect at all on the ability to perform a 4-2 break. There seems to be some element of mystique to 4-2 break running, but there's nothing magic about it, and certainly the fact that the liner is brass and plated with chrome/nickel/ceramic doesn't make a big difference. And it should last even longer, and be much more forgiving than the stock iron liner. All engines should be ABC/AAC, it's FAR superior in every regard.
Whether it's worth $65, you can only decide for yourself. The stock motor works fine if you have it upright or inverted, and run the right fuel.

Yes, the lube requirements change completely for the ABC version of the Fox .35. You would no longer be required to run 26-29% all castor. A mix of 22-25% castor-synthetic 50-50 blend would do the job fine. Since you will now have somewhere between 4 and 7 percent more of the stuff that burns and makes power, you should get a boost in the output from the old workhorse, and keep your engine cleaner and less prone to varnishing up.

GMA's ABC's were Russian, imported via Dan Rutherford. I would expect the quality to be a bit better than Fox ABC's, due to better metallurgy and probably better tolerance control. Does anybody know what the Saturn "Ceramic" deal is about? High silicon aluminum piston, I suppose, but what is the liner, and what is the plating? I suspect hard anodize, which is supposed to be synthetic Ruby? That would then mean an aluminum liner. If not, what? Or is it secret? Steve
As to the K&B .40 ABC Stunt...excellent 4-2-4 run out of the box but it is a heavy bugger. GMA said it was the best ever 4-2-4 engine out of the box, and mine was great, first runs at C.O.L.D. About 6 runs to get a clear exhaust residue. Did replace the thick head gasket with an FP .40 gasket, thanks to Pat Johnston, to gain some power at the 3.3K altitude and temps around 80F. ABC and Schneurle porting are not a problem for 4-2-4 runs!
One thing that kind of cheesed me was an inverted flameout a couple of months ago at the Detroit RC Club's This was during a period in which it rained every weekend for about a month, and the ground was saturated; in fact, it was raining at the time. No damage; not even a busted prop. But it's this sort of incident that gets you down on an engine, whether it is the engine's fault or not.

It wont convert me but it is a pleasent motor to run There is a real difference in the vibration level with the motor and it is a little more consistant in it's running < side mounted> on a firecat

#12 sourceWow, I though Jim was running a Double Star .40 in his plane when I was launching it for him in GA in May of 00 when I got whacked! If that's an ABC Fox .35, I'm amazed!! John Simpson's ABC Fox .35 runs real well too in his Nobler, but his Nobler only weighs 34 ounces! I don't know exactly what Jim's plane weighs, but I know it's more than that.

RE: Fox .35 ABC piston & liner??? and other stunt products.#13 sourcewe have broken records in ducted fan events, model car events ,over the last 2 years,
now our fox 35 has opened up a whole new way of life for motors, less vibaration les oil, and the liner should out last the owner,I have had robin heirn from model raceing services help me with our test,he has broken all speed records even in england.
to say he is impressed would be an understatement.then we did the super tiger 46 stunt for another great australian stunt champion doug grinham,he is over the moon, and the merco 40 stunt for my self as I like the motor.
yes there not ABC,but alloyplasma liner alloy piston, each piston is made for each liner, this all is such an expensive process most are saying there to expensive, not something I can ever do any thing about, with the process we might get 50 percent of the
liners that look like cheese graters, but then the heat is
fantastic to say the least, but those around the world that have
them tink highley of them,I just try to make a beter mouse trap
but dont have a way to make the cheapley but andy kerr another
australian folk hero, looked and said these are the future.
god bless us al till later.

now that all seems like I am blowing the trunpet hard, but if I cant get this venture to improve sales it will go like so many things have before.

RE: Fox .35 ABC piston & liner??? and other stunt products.#15 sourcethe finish to the liner is so hard like diamond, sure its not indstry plasma as so many think.
brian thought my fits were all up the putt, but then andy knew what we had done, the piston grows around 6% to allow good seal hot or cold, starting is so unreal ,I wish doug grinhan had a computer so he could tell you all,I dont want to seem over bearing to the modeller,I want the modeller to tell you all of its merit, but they seem to be getting a cault folowing, when they win events they are closed mouthed, but then I can understand that, but we need sales to contiune this dream.
I also do a covering that doug uses on his models saves time, and weight and the finish on his models are unreal, its a better mouse trap I am striving for for modelling.
I just pray now after what has happened to me we can keep our selves a float, god willing we will.god bless us all till later.
Tony Cincotta VH936.
I'll do my part to keep you afloat. My order for a Saturn Fox .35 p&l will be in the mail the first of the week. What are the chances of one for the O.S. .35S? THAT would be a good one!!
thx,
Mel Duval
doug keeps saying he cant beleive his st46 runs like a watch, will try to get him to do a report for this forun.
and as soon as we do recoupe we will do the OS brian gardner did advise me on this one.
god willing around the end of this year, god bless all till later.
kind regards.

I can vouch for what Tony has written here. Doug does very much like his 46, and I have one although I've not run it yet. It is by far the best technology out there.
Tony and I are discussing doing them for the Jett/GMA 60. It would be nice if we could get some feedback as to whether people are interested in these. Personally I have 3 of them and I was part of the driving force pushing GMA & Dub to do the 60. I know a lot of people complained about the pinch @tdc which hurt sales, its a shame these persons don't understand what they are talking about. A certain big mouth in our country really hurt sales here too despite the fact I was beating him at every event with them at the time.
Please if you are genuinely interested in a set for your Jett/GMA 60 let me know.

Jim,
Svitko was running a DS 40 for awhile in that plane. I think Charlotte's october 2000 contest was the first for the ABC Fox. I practiced alot with him that weekend and he was concerned that his fuel mileage with the ABC was tight on 4 ounces but the power was there. He ended up running a 10x4 that weekend so he could lean it way out to stretch his fuel. I believe his DS 40 had been worn out that summer so he went with the Fox. At KOI he had a DS 40 in his Oriental but kept the Fox in the Time Machine.
You mentioned getting whacked, is that the contest you got run over by a plane??
By the way, I would guess that Jim's Time Machine 40 is about 39 ounces-not a feather but not a brick by any means. My Time Machine 40 with monokote finish and a FP 40 came out at 40 ounces and flies great.

#20 sourceYup, that's when John Simpson's Cavalier nearly took my head off!
Glad it missed everything except for the wing tip got me in the back. I'll say one thing for sure now. I'll never turn my back to the circle again while winding lines or cleaing oil off my plane after a flight!!

#19 sourceI also have an Aldrich ABC setup in another Fox. Both of these ABC setups are considerably smoother than a stock Fox, however the Fox ABC setup has the best characteristics and may be the smoothest engine I own. It is certainly the most powerful .35, outperforming the DS40 that I previously used in the plane. The engine turns a 10.5 X 5 Bolly Clubman in a nice consistant 4-2 break. It has a 'Big Art' tongue muffler. Fuel is 5 to 10% Sig Champion (1/2 syn. & 1/2 cast.) with 3% castor added. Plug is a #3 Merlin. Launch rpm is around 9200 in an almost solid 4-stroke. Fuel consumption is approx. 4 oz. for a full-pattern.
I'm very happy with this engine even with the additional cost. Predictable stunt run and very low vibration levels.

#22 sourceUniflow, no muffler pressure. I have a 3-tube manifold exiting the fuse: one is vent/fill; one is overflow and the last just goes through the fuse wall. After filling, I cap the overflow and run fuel tubing from the vent/fill to the third one. That way the tank draws air from inside the fuse (no wind pressure).
The tank is a tapered (wider at the rear) variation of George Aldrich's pinch corner tank. If you haven't got a drawing of George's, I can send you one (and or mine). I believe GMA's site is now down.
