Names For New Stunters

The name is the 'Coup de Grace'. The finishing touch. The 'Grabber'.
Observers muse, and usually 'read the wing' aloud.
Planes' names have their own 'mystique', and selecting one from *out of the blue* is tough, pun intended.
"Citation",I like that. "Intimidation", even better. "Imitation", the last word. (is it just 'inFancheration'?)
"Infraction" was good, as were all the "Misses": (Miss Demeanor, Miss Fire, Miss Spelled, etc.: Mr. Completely was timely)
"Felony" had impact. So did "Impact".
Chevy names are popping up more & more, I have seen Chevelles, Camaros, Novas, an Impala, even a Chevy ll and a Vette!
Ford names were used up very early, i.e. Mustang,(!) Thunderbird, Galaxie, Falcon, etc. Fairlane is a recent add'tn., my favorite, BTW.
Olds had its day in there too, "Fiesta" and "Starfire", altho' I've yet to see a "Ninety-Eight" Stunter, but there probably was one.
Cad's "De Ville" was seen on a a Profile Stunt, and "El Dorado" on a Full Fuse, never seen a "Brougham" or a "Fleetwood".
Chrysler Corp had some to offer: "Fury", "Dart", "Newport", "Satel-
lite", and "Stratus" and "Viper", of late.
Where are the "Savoys" and "Brookwoods" and "Country Squires"?
Seen an "El Camino" Stunter, but no "Ranchero".
"Escalade". Natural for a Stunter? Sounds too much like a packaged drink, you add water and sugar.
"Boxter". I have had a lot of planes that fit that description after the first day's flying...

Hohah. Hows bouts "Lemon" for some of my cars or "fixer upper" for hand me downs. Or Fiero for those that catch fire a lot (K&B upturned exhaust primed with glow still hot) or Yugo as in "Yu gonna fly thet there thingy"

I liked the ones for planets, stars, mythological characters (Mars, Zeus, Neptune, Ares, Juno, but not Pluto!

Hi Mike. One of my favourites is named after one of the constellations in the sky. I like the thought of this plane indulging in all this stellar activity. It's called Cepheus Elf. When someone asks "What's a Cepheus Elf?" I just say "There's one, See fa yaself!".

Named three planes Arcturus. I believe the fourth brightest star in the Galaxy(another name).

Allen Brickhaus did the Savoy. And there was another Savoy before that, I think a 1/2a. Avanti was used by Bob Baron. Sterling used the "Imperial", Eddie Eliasic (sp?) did the Impala. Surely AlfaDog would use one of the Gulietta's or something of that sort. There was a Pluto published (in Model Builder I think), a profile sport stunter. Olds made Aurora's, but the USAF is flying those already. Nomad was a Chevy and also a STOL transport built by GAC in Oz. They called it the "GoMad". Look at some of the free flight names. Satellite, Ramrod (also an Ozzie Stunter), Beau Coupe, Wydawake, Thunderbird (unlimited rubber from the '50's), Wishbone. The "Pearls". Dick Mathis always had a zingy name. Only one "Trianic", tho, near as I can tell. How about it, Allen? Post pics of yours, please? Steve

I've only ever heard of one model named after a brand of beer though - yours.

I've always liked the ones with a musical connection - george fuller (UK) had a whole series - dixielander being the most popular. My only contribution to that was the marrakesh express, though the connection may not have been entirely musical...

Like the car names too - wish I'd thought of Gulietta - How about the Lancia's - Flaminia, Flavia etc - had a girlfriend called Aurielia once - talk about independent suspension.

BTW, I think it was Claus Maikis with the Savoy.

As to beer, there was a line of free flight powered models named after "Pearl" beer. Terrible stuff, great models.

So far the Trianic is in the "done" component state. It will await full completion after my new Barnstormer is done. Henk de Yong and i plan to publish the Trianic in Flying Models after the VSC. Now working on another possible, to this date, non published stunter for VSC 2005.

Free Flight names: GYSOB, Star Duster, Great Speckled Bird, Drag Master, Ghost, Dove, Taub, Orbiteer, and my favorite: Satellite 1000.

The Country Squire was done in the late 60's, only problem is it was RC instead of control line.

One year built a plane that looked like Ted's Imitation, but totally my design in size, airfoil, etc. called it the Semitation.

Pandora's Box.

Though not a confidence building name. maybe a Combat model???

I've known only one woman named Pandora, I was a kid about 10 years old living in a tough neighborhood in Chicago and there were these German twin boys who were friends of mine, they had a 15 year old sister named Pandora and I fell for her looks. Long hair, brown eyes, A long thin nose, a pale complexion, ghostly looking, but very pretty and she was nice to me, asking how school was going for me, what were my favorite t.v. shows, I was smitten with affection for her. Very innocent.

The dad was to say the least, too heavy handed in his attempts to control the children's behavior, Pandora ran away from home. Eight months later my mother moved us away to Michigan, before our departure I caught up with the German brothers asking again "is Pandora home yet?!!" their answer was no. My heart sunk and my gut tightened. I remember my eyes welling up thinking about if she was okay.
I still have thoughts once in awhile about her.

I’d crack up if I were to see some stunters with names that make absolutely no sense.
Like: “Cream of Wheat” or “Night Crawler”. How about: “Pot Hole”, “Outhouse” or “Paperclip”.
Would you get the looks or what? Talk about the questions asked.

Did something like that one time. Built a plane with twin fuselages, canard and standard tail, flaps on the wing, engine between the fuselage on the leading edge of the wing. Called it WHAT THE ... THAT . Everyone who saw it filled in the blank twas fun. Flew fairly well until the solder joint on the pushrod came loose.

When it comes to names for model airplanes, currently I am enjoying Ted's choice of "Final Edition" for a model which worked well enough to get him on the 2004 US W/C's F2B team. In turn prompting him to throw all caution to the wind, declaring he was so pumped he was intending to (is currently?) build a new PA model.

Will this new model be the "Final Edition Mk II," in itself a nonsensical proposition? Or will it have a really huge wing so it can be called "Final Edition. No, really. I'm not kidding this time!" on both upper and lower surfaces?

Actually, Ted can name the new model anything he likes. I'm just hoping he has used up whatever color of paint that was on the first (of two?) "Final Edition."

And the great GMA, when asked where he came up with the name "Nobler", told me that he looked in a dictionary for a synonym for "good", and decided that "noble" sounded right. Then he said something to the effect that when asked how well the ship flew, he said "noble, nobler than anything YOU guys have!"

Listening to public radio one Saturday when I was working on a stunt model, I heard a Brazilian musical group named "Special Effects", which I decided would be a good name for my ship. The next version could be "After Effects", or "Side Effects", or "Ill Effects" maybe!

Larry, 'how many posts is this?' To be truthful, I was sort of fishing here for the origin of that "Nobler' name. Notice how the Japanese (and Koreans, et al) are marketing their models of late.
They merely change a vowel or consonant in an adjective, and Voila! They have a new name. Hey! *Voilax*! or,*Voilar*, if it tracks funny.Maybe *Voilak*, or, *Voilup* like an impact. Sorry, Paul.

One of the Barry's did a smaller ,.35 sized Imitation which he called the Limitation.

Would someone please alert Ted to certain portions of this thread? I would hate to have him think we are doing this behind his back, especially when it is more fun to poke fun to his face.

Yeah, there are plans for the Limitation. The main difference is that it has a side mounted engine-standard profile style. Dale had one at Huntersville last month.
