We just test flew this modified Fierce Arrow.
ST60, 62 oz. ,Randy tongue muffler, 1200 sq/in area!!!!
Plans came fron model aviation list, Bob Baron.
It flies a respectable pattern at around 5.3 sec lap times.
I'm happy and delighted!

Wow, that is cool! Hard to imagine that many squares on the end of the lines!

Yup!!
It pulls like truck. line tesion no problem. good tension on overheads. It also has equal panels and no rudder offset. Most of all it's just a strange unusual and kind of FUNKY weird airplane. I built it for fun as a kind of different thing to play with, and after I got it trimmed out, I realized that It flies a great pattern.

The Fierce Arrow is a very cool Netzeband design.

I have a Netzeband "Little Half Fast" built in 1964...never flown!...was afraid of it then!

Have the 1950's MAN article on the Fierce Arrow...looked great.

There is a list of "plans to order" from Tom Dixon on a 3-M stickup stuck to my computer screen...including "Galloping Comedian", "Venus", "StaggerWing Beech" and a few other oldies...

Exactly what changes did you do make to the Fierce Arrow?

Thanks,

Pete

"Exactly what changes did you do make to the Fierce Arrow?"

I think he made it bigger, and modified the flaps...

I built it according to the Bob Baron plans, but I changed the Fuselage profile to make it a little more attractive. modified the tip slider to make it more adjustable, and I eliminated three ribs from each wing panel. Same span but more rib spacing. Also used lost foam method to get an accurate wing. Power is an ST60 Nose is SV22 construction.
I'm really quite thrilled with the way it flies.

Dan, what did you end up doing after the last time we spoke?

Hey steve,
We added more tip weight and tweaked the flaps/elevators a bit.
Flew it on Sunday at the Wrentham field, and had a ball with it.
What started out as a fun project turned into a very good flying plane.

See ya at the field

WAY too cool! The lines of that airplane are scalelike, and your changes have enhanced it greatly. I had a Half-Fast lll in '59, no tail, Corsair Blue w/ Navy markings, K&M Torp.35. Loved it, up 'til now.
This 're-size' triggers some serious thinking! NICE work!

I'll post a picture of mine when finished. It was essentially framed up when I got it. Someone put trike gear on it. I have to make a cowl and elevons, fix various little things, paint, cover.

This is the smaller, c. 800 sq in version, from '57.

If we get the gift of one more good day I will be there.
We got to get you a good plane going for next season.
You are doing real well. With an AWESOME airplane you could make all the real good fliers step it up a notch.

see you on Sunday

I've had a ball with my Fierce Arrow 400 w/McCoy RH 19! And it, too, flies a pretty good pattern.
These planes really look different in the air.

For those that want an original set of M.A.N. plans, #79A for the fierce Arrow 400, they are now on ebay at #3157 5360 88. Same guy is selling a few other old MAN and AT plans.
I built the Half Fast flying wing in 1965 and it was very stable, but quick on the controls. Lots of fun.

A friend in St. Louis, whose name excapes me at the moment, a CL combat flyer who also flies RC, built an RC Fierce Arrow. It was pretty impressive to watch; very fast and maneuverable.

Wild Bill Netzeband is currently building an R/C Fierce Arrow. I don't know what modifications he is incorporating in it.

Can you give us a little more direct pointer to the plans?

I googled on the expected strings and could not find a web page reference.

19.5 sq.in./oz that's combat fighting wing loading. Should fly really well at that weight and wing area.

Today, I had the priveledge to fly Dan's Fierce Arrow!
It is a very unique plane flight wise. Dan is still trimming it but my first reaction was very positive. the plane pulls hard and moves with this...what's the word I'm looking for? Oh yes, grace. very unique feeling. I think Dan likes it better than his ROJett 40 powered Vector. While I was at the field, he flew the fierce arrow 3 times and didn't even touch the vector at all.

Dan, thank you for letting me try both planes! I think the Fierce Arrow has the best potential of the two planes. I enjoyed flying it the most!

I've also spoken with Rick and it looks like thin elevators could be the cause of the 'funny' steering you and I have noticed on the Vector. Have you considered bulding a set of new elevators that are the same thickness as the stab? I'm no expert here so don't take my word. Please, talk to expert fliers at the field: I could have misinterpreted things. I'd hate to see such a nice plane not get utilized. It flies real well in all other respects!

Thanks again for letting me experience such a unique plane!

I found it looking through the MA archives.

It's the Fierce Arrow '86, described in MA, July 1987.
Originally for an OS .45
